new iPhone; need mount recommendations

Back before my previous iPod was stolen, I used a gooseneck mount that plugged into the lighter; aux plug went into the mount, too. It sounded great. The whole thing was removed while I camped with the Boy Scouts.

Now that I have an iPhone, what's the best way to use the aux port and charge the phone at the same time? I'd like something that uses the docking port's audio out feature, rather than the headphone jack.

Any help will be appreciated.

I used one of these in my 02 and I still think it's the best.

Well, the product page does not list the iPhone as being compatible. It all depends on the size of the dock connector. But I'll check with Belkin's other products, as well as Griffin Tech.

I just received my iPhone suction mount from RAM Mount (ram-mount.com) and it works great. I actually stuck it up on my sunroof tilted down and it's awesome with a BT headset. They have some different variations on the kit for about $35.

Yo JDMARINO,

Dude, I have the solution for you. Here are pictures on my web gallery of my iPhone/iPod install. The Belkin auto kit (black) is what I use for power and audio out, to the AUX in. Also I use a mount from PANAVISE, that is made for the MINI and looks great. To obtain power, I mounted the male end of the Belkin to the underside of a Center Console Organizer, with some tie wraps. This male end plugged into a female cigarette lighter receptacle I purchased @ Pep Boys. Which then was connected to an add-a-circuit in the fuse box. The cable was run through the area behind the kick panel on the driver's side, under the steering wheel. Same piece replace when you install a Euro Parcel Shelf.

The Belkin auto kit does give me an error saying that it is an accessory not designed for use with the iPhone, and would I like to enter Airplane mode. Funk dat, I just hit the "NO" button and continue using my stuff. The reason this comes up is cuz Apple is a lil' greedy these days and puts some new chip into all ipod/iphone accessories, and if the iPhone/iPod doesn't see the special chip it gives that error.....dont worry 'bout it.

So here are the parts that I used:

Belkin Auto Kit
Female Cigarette Lighter Receptacle
Add-A-Circuit

Panavise Mount part #751-46-102
purchase from
http://www.panaviseonline.com/product.php?id=1427

Bracketron Mount part #IPM-202-BL
purchase from
http://www.bracketron.com/main/index.php?catid=6&pid=18

Here are pics of my install:

Nice

This is a nice setup.

I've been thinking about adding another power jack but did not know how to wire it easily. (The only "wiring" I've done is the plug-n-play variety for the aux port, bluetooth, and the auto-up circuit.) I'll check out the add-a-circuit. I have the euro parcel shelf which does limit where I can run wires. (I had to get creative when mounting the bluetooth circuit bricks because I did not have the bolster to hide them behind.)

I'd hate to lose the cupholder. I have a love-hate realtionship with it: I use it every day, but I think it's butt-ugly. So maybe I'll use your wiring setup and find some other mount.

Thanks for all the details and pix.

Dude, only wiring I have ever done was this, and the power for my radar detector. And I can't recall, but more than likely I was inebriated in some manner when I did this. I found t to be very easy, just remember that shrink wrap or electrical tape can be your buddy. The add-a-circuit is great, and will probably run ya under $10.

I see you don't use any kind of wrap for you iPhone. Do you think there would be enough room in that cradle for a phone with a wrap?

Totally would fit. The bracketron mount's sides easily come out, and have the ability to adjust the width. You just slide them up, and then pop them into the "channel" you want them in. With both sides at their widest position I can easily fit my 80GB 5th gen iPod. Will go shoot a couple pics right now for ya. And add them to the existing gallery I have.

Nope not for something like this. If you guys were debating the looks of daisy wheels, or some other lame a$$ thing, and I chimed in and gave my opinion in favor of the Daisy Wheels, they wouldn't just flame me.

One of them would probably drive to my house and kick me square in the NUTS.

I use the Blitzsafe M-link V1.1 in my car and it works great. It plugs into the cd changer ports in the boot so the audio quality is PERFECT, plus it charges the iPhone/iPod for up to 20 minutes after the car is off.

When I plug the iPhone in it says that it isn't compatible and to turn the airplane mode on, just tap no and be on your way (it DOES work). It's like $60, money well spent.

Now I just need a good mount for an iPod/iPhone (I use both, different music). I'm after something that looks OEM, I don't want any screws or the like being exposed.

*****

Has anyone run the cable for the iPod inside the downtube? May have to try routing my cable this way...

Has anyone used the Pro-Clip Holder with Swivel?

Might work.

Will this fit? Or will it bump into the toggles?
