adhesive disk GPS Mounting

Good morning !!! I purchased a Garmin C340 nav unit. It comes with a disk for mounting on the dash. I understand that this disk is very hard to remove later, if not impossible. I also am told that the temporary disk does not work well. I had an XM portable radio in my Z3 that used a removable adhesive strip for mounting. It was strong and removable leaving no marks. I am looking for an alternative adhesive like this instead of the disk that came with the Garmin. I am testing performance right now with the unit located in the cup holder, but it's not the best. Am looking at the KUDA mount but wonder if it will be much better that the cupholder location? Any suggestion on a product to use instead of the supplied disk would be appreciated.

Interesting note. I just took delivery of a new Lexus GS350 with NAV. I like the Garmin as well if not more. I have had a LS400 and a Acura TL with NAV and so far the Acura was the best factory install in my opinion. Friends who have Mini's with factory NAV advised me not to order as they were displeased.

Thanks, for any suggestion.

Bob

I've used the Garmin "permanent" disks on three different cars so far, and they've always held securely, yet come off without leaving any residue behind, as long as I pull slowly and use a little heat.

IIRC, the "permanent" adhesive disk is the one with the hole in the middle of it.

I've had the permanent Garmin mounts come off on their own, leaving no marks. They aren't really permanent.

Thanks to Scottriqui and Minidrivr for their response. I think I'll go ahead and use the supplied disk. Bob

You're welcome - good luck!

Don't forget to clean the dash really well with some isopropyl alcohol. Any vinyl dressing or grease/dirt won't play nice with the adhesive.

Are you guys talking about the little plastic disk that came with the Garmin GPS? When you take out the disk, it does leave residue behind on the dash, but can be clean by using goo gone.

I found the disk doesn't hold the unit well in the summer. When it is not hot inside the car, everything works fine. When the inside temperature get close to 100, the GPS just fall off the disk. I finally just got rid of the disk and bought a dashboard friction mount from Walmart:

I'd suggest getting some sort of aftermarket mount. I've not had good luck with any of the adhesive mounts for Garmin units.

We just installed a Kuda mount for a Nuvi and love it. We got the one that attaches to the dash instead of the one that attaches to the downtube.

Thanks Yucca Patrol and Need for your responses. We used the disk. I know it may not work well in hot weather and if it fails, I'll follow your advise.
