You can normally get a Nuvi 650 for $350-360 shipped.

The same icons that MINI puts on its re-branded Nuvi 360 will work with the Nuvi 650.

I have the 660, and unless you use the Bluetooth phone connectivity or the FM transmitter, it doesn't do anything better/differently than the 650.

 

Can you get the NUVI's sound (voice directions) to come out the mini sound system, and mute music?

You can, by hooking the Nuvi up to the AUX input. But, that means you also have to use the Nuvi as your music source.

In other words, you can't be listening to the radio or a CD, and have the Nuvi interrupt with directions. This is a limitation of the factory stereo, so the same will be true of any portable GPS unit.
