Motorola V551 Bluetooth?

Has anyone been successful at getting this phone to work with an 07's bluetooth?

I can receive calls just fine, the phone is listed in the Mini's Nav display, when I try to make a call, as soon as the phone starts to dial, the Mini's display shows call Ended, even though the phone continues to dial. Both the phone and the car show a bluetooth connection. For some reason the phone or car isn't turning on the mic and speakers for the call.

A call to Mini USA got me another toll free number which basically said if the phone isn't listed on the website http://wireless4mini.com/ then they don't offer any help.

Hi

I've got a V551. The phone mates the address book with the MINI just fine and it voice dials all calls as long as I set that up separately. If someone calls me that is in the address book, their name shows up on the little screen (I don't have Nav). Some folks have indicated that their phone and the MINI BT system takes it a step further: they can voice dial anything in their address book without setting it up separately; must be nice. Let me know how things work out for you.

I have a v555 and have the same problem as Minidrivr.

Phil K - when you say you set up the numbers separately what do you mean? When I dial out I try to use the voice prompt for "dial number" and then I give the number - computer repeats- and then I say dial. The phone will dial but the Bluetooth connection is lost with the car. The same thing happens when I try to dial from the address book that has moved over form my phone.

This must be a software thing in the phone. My gal's V557 works fine in the car. The V551 and V557 look identical in function. Too bad they don't work with the car the same. I'll more than likely get a Razr since there are cradles for them.

Okay, in order to tell BT to dial a specific name, I must first tell Mr. BT to "Save Name". He asks what the name is, I tell him Joe, he asks for the name a second time, I tell him and then he asks for the number. He verifies the number and then says continue. I say Save and it's in the system. Next time I want to call that person I simply say "Dial Joe" and BT asks "Would you like to dial Joe?" I say yes and a few seconds later Joe's phone starts ringing. I can also tell BT to "Dial Number". He asks for the number, I tell him, he verifies, I say dial and away we go.

Some folks are saying, if I understand them correctly, that they don't have to do the save name procedure that I described above. Apparently, once the phone's address book links up with BT, they can simply tell BT to dial any name in their phone's address book without the Save Name procedure. My address book links up just fine with BT, but I still have to perform the Save Name for the Dial Name capability to work.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks Phil K that makes sense. So I think the bottom line is that yours works and mine doesn't. When I get my MINI back from the shop I will try to set up a name and see if that works. I didn't bother since the 'dial number' part didn't work. I know my phone has a voice activated thing that I never bothered to set up. Maybe that is what is allowing these other folks to use it without setting up separate. My phone book transfered fine. Even when I dial manually from the phone book it won't hold the BT.
Oh well - contract is up - time for new phone...

That is how my phone works. The Mini will voice dial any listing in the address book without having to setup voice dialing first. There are none setup with voice dialing on the phone itself.

That's all fine except it can't continue the bluetooth connection once it dials out so really it doesn't do me any good.

My car was a week 24 build.

I'm wondering does it change anything if addresses are saved to the phone or to the chip inside the phone?

Mine are all saved to the phone itself and not the chip. I back them up on my computer using a usb cable so no need to store them on the sim chip in the phone.

Mine were just saved to the phone as well. Good question. I did save to the sim when I demoed a RAZR that worked fine. I would try it on my old phone now that it's on the SIM if only I had my car back...

Not sure yet Had a great week of spirited driving and a play date with other MINI's. Sunday evening she just decided not to start Tried everything in the book... She's been towed to the dealership 3+ hours away. They put her on the 'machine' today so hopefully by tomorrow we will have a diagnosis. 2,400 happy miles with nary a complaint and then this .

Sorry to hear it. Hopefully, it's a one time fluke, not something chronic and then back to playing! Good luck.

I've been so tense about something happening to my MINI based, perhaps irrationally, on experiences with my previous car, a 2000 VW Jetta. It too was a first year/new model and it was in the shop way too often during the first couple of years...lots of headaches and heartaches. So far T-Bone has behaved; we're at 5,800 miles. The tension has subsided BUT I'm always painfully aware that anything can happen at any time.
