My plan for the Drivers seat

I am planning of disconnecting the battery and removing the drivers side seat from the car. I want to look into removing the bar that connects the left and right sides that is used for the passenger load feature on the upper back of the seat.
shown here: (NOT THE ONE THAT MOVES THE SEAT FOWARD AND BACK)
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...23&hg=52&fg=10

Since i want to retain all other seat features, i hope this isnt tied into anything else.

Does anyone have any experience with this, or insight to share?
thanks

I'm guessing to make room for an amp?

Indeed. my amp is too large to fit there unless i do this. Crazy? maybe. but i really dont use that feature anyway.
I guess i could sell my amp and get 2 2ch amps and put one under the drivers seat where i think there is foam, and put the other in the passenger boot space where MM did.

I just looked at my seat mechanism it is a bunch of interconnecting levers and springs under there. I think if you remove that crossbar it will screw up the forward/back function. I would not mess with it if I were you. find another place in the car for your amps. or buy a smaller one.

You asked us to share our thoughts/insight for your problem , I think your response, Quote, ("DOH") is disprespectful, and not in the charactor of this forum to, say the least for someone, who is trying to help you , we are not stupid ,but savvy . Go ahead cut it out ,see what you get.

I'm pretty sure he's saying DOH in the sense that "DOH I can't do what I wanted to do"

I didn't take the DOH! as disrespectful at all. More like the Homer Simposon DOH! when he realizes something.

I think your are thinking of "DUH!" which has quite a different meaning from "DOH!"

"DOH!" was originally intended to be read as the same "DOH" that Homer Simpson uses like MM pointed out. I am sorry if i created any confusion and GREATY APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL HELP THAT I GET ON THIS FORUM.

Thanks again all.

By the way, I am still going to remove the seat so that i can lay it down and check things out. I really doubt that i am going to be able to take any of it apart. My Plan B may have to be a Boston Acoustics GT 40 like MM's installed under the drivers seat. Looking at Real OEM, it seems that there should be a piece of foam under the drivers just like in the passenger. since i have DSC, i dont have enough room under the passenger. unfortunately, this also means a new subwoofer since the one i have is dual 4 ohm coils and will not get enough power from the 40 at 8 ohms and would get too much at 2 ohms. DOH again! : )

The GT40 is a 4 channel amp that wouldn't be the best choice for a subwoofer anyway. It's great for the fronts though. If you really want to use a GT40 I'd bridge the back channels for the sub and use the front channels for the front speakers but wattage is a little low without bridging (for my listening volume at least). I've bridged the GT40 to give me 2x~160w for the fronts.

There is room on the passenger side in the boot to hide a decent size amp for a sub.

that bar is not fixed....it rotates as the slider is used. I don't think you can remove it. I looked at the same thing, but there's room for something as big as the Polk c400.4 under there - I tested it by removing the seat on an R56, the foam and sticking the amp under there.

PGT,
are you talking about the drivers seat that you put the polk under?
if so, do you recall if there was any more room under there for something larger?

Polk C400.4
15-15/16"W x 2-9/16"H x 9-3/4"D

Fosgate P450.4
16.4"W x 2.1"H x 11"W

I am looking for .5". i am pretty sure that the 11W would not hinder if the 16.4 fits....

i am going to go under there tomorrow evening. I need the car tomorrow!

10.5" is the limit front to rear. about 16 and change side to side and 2.5-3" in height (to the carpet...more to the seat if you cut out the carpet).
