Navigation & Audio Nav v.30 firmware
Nav v.30 firmware
The people over at X5world are saying the v.30 version of the Nav System firmware is out. The reports are it only does stuff on the newer Idrive Nav systems. Anyone wanna confirm?

Yes, for the MKIV (DVD) nav system in the 1st gen MINIs there hasn't been any new changes made in the v30 release (as compared to the v29.1 release that is). Thus, if you already have v29.1 installed (i.e. version 4-1/91 as shown in the nav's Set or Setup menu screen), then there's no need to do the update to v30.
Also, that link you posted now contains a download link in it for the v30 image as well (if anyone needs/wants it).

BTW, my guess is that BMW/MINI will stop releasing updates for the older DVD-based MKIV nav system now that the new MOST-based nav system is being used in the new R56 2nd gen MINIs. This is exactly what they did to the CD-based MKIII nav systems (i.e. there hasn't been any updates for those systems in eons now).
We'll probably continue to see update discs, but the changes will most likely be for the newer BMW nav systems only. Oh, and just in case any one's a wondering... The DVD-CCC nav system in the new MINI's cannot be updated like this (i.e. with the update disc). It requires a trip to the dealer to have them code the system as far as I'm aware.

@101dals,
It depends upon your dealer... The nav firmware/software update is VERY easy to do and only takes a couple of minutes. You simply pop the software update CD into the nav drive and let it do its thing. Thus, some dealers will do it for free (since it's so easy). However, I've also heard of dealers that charge for doing it, or completely refuse to do the update at all unless there's an actual problem with your nav system that warrants doing the update.
@FPM,
You are confusing two separate things here...
For the nav system there is a map disc that contains the maps, addresses, and points of interest (restaurants, gas stations, etc.). That disc remains in the nav system all the time and is what is used when you are routing with the nav system, looking up addresses, viewing the map, etc.
A 2003-2 map disc is VERY OLD and out of date. The newest map disc available is 2007-2 (which contains map information from the 2nd quarter of the year 2007). Thus, your current map disc (and hence map data information) is now four years old. It's time for you to purchase a new map disc. You can do that direct from the map data provider (i.e. NavTeq) here:
http://www.navteq.com
Next there is a nav system firmware/software update disc. These discs are simply used to update (i.e. flash) the firmware stored within the nav unit itself. They are inserted into the nav unit, the update process takes place, and then they are removed and the main map disc is put back in.
The latest nav software update disc available is v30 (which is identical to v29.1 as far as our car's nav system is concerned). The firmware version related to the v29.1 and v30 update disc is 4-1/91 for the DVD-based nav systems and 3-1/63 for the CD-based nav systems (which hasn't changed since v22).
To find out what version of the firmware you have installed on your nav system do this:
1) Push the "MENU" button to get to the the main menu.
2) Scroll to the "SETTINGS" (or "SET") menu selection and click the **** to select it.
The version number will be displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the Settings screen.
Note that if the version number of your nav system starts with a "3", then you have an older CD-based MKIII nav system. If the version number starts with a "4", then you have a newer DVD-based MKIV nav system.
You can find a table showing which firmware version is related to which software update disc here:

I hope this helps some.

I'll confirm it... The V30 disk that I have does not update any portion of the MK34 system. In fact, if you pop it in, it just pops back out saying that it was updated. No changes at all....
Looks like the MK4 firmware development cycle may be coming to an end.
