How does somone wire up a 2400 watt amp to a car's 12 volt system. I am acutaly helping a friend who asked me and for the life of me i can not figure out how you get 200 constant amps out of a car electrica system. There must be somthing i am missing.

any links to a goo DYI or some HOw to guides would be great.

Pretty simple. 0 gauge wire and some fuses. Its not 200 constant amps.. I've hooked up 2000 watt amps, best to have a spare battery. What amp is it? A real 2400 watts? Or 2400 watts @ 18.5 volts with a tailwind? If you let me know what amp it is i'll let you know how to wire it best.

a spare battery is a drain, not a help unless you plan on running the stereo with the motor off.

Only the most baller of amps need 200A of current.....something like an old-school Team Phoenix Gold (MS-2250). Most current amps that claim huge power don't really put out that kind of wattage nor draw 200A.

It's easy to get 200 amps available constantly. Just get an alternator rated for that. It isn't going to be cheap though. Your stock altenator is not going to be even close.

As someone said you'll need to run 0 gauge wire.

Please, please, please, PLEASE run 0 gauge wire!! I've seen a car go up in flames because someone didn't use the correct gauge!! Oh yeah, and hope that the car's computer won't have problems when you thump around in your car... amps that big require large alternators/deep cell batteries.

yeah zero guage i for sure.

Even a rated alternator does not run 200 amps at idel. I am going to talk to my friend tommorow i think he wants to be a baller and is bringing me down. I am a decent engineer,a good mechanic and can setup a car for a road race...but i know nothing much about baller stereos :P

One thing I've failed to see in this thread is placing a fuse in the engine compartment within 18 inches of the battery. I doubt that you're running a 2400 watt RMS amp. Maybe combined. I ran a 1200.1 JBL for 2 JL Audio 10W3v2's and a 600.2 JBL for the front components in my Jeep Wrangler. That was about 1800 watts RMS, but you really have to push those to get the full 1800 watts.

Did I mention a fuse? If not, let me mention a fuse! This is probably the most important part of your install, besides disconnecting the negative terminal on your battery. This is manditory, not optional.

FWIW, I had absolutely no power issues in my Jeep.

PS: Bhatch......................... what's a baller? Never heard of a "baller" stereo? Is that like ghetto?

Get the name of the amp for us. I'd like to see a baller 2400 watt amp

Here is a typical 2 channel plus a sub wiring diagram. It's pretty straight forward, but covers most installs that would be done in a Mini.

Hope this helps!
