Uninstalling OEM iPod Adapter

Got my box from EAS today and will hopefully be installing my DICE and XM tomorrow afternoon. Have a pretty good idea how I'm installing the new equipment but not sure how to uninstall the Mini iPod adaptor that I currently have. Do I have to pull the HU (if so can someone point me to a thread on how to do that)? Tom mentioned it is a matter of pulling that unit out and plugging the wire from it back into the harness.

You may be able to do it without pulling out the HU, but there's a sticky at the top of this sub-forum telling how to remove the HU:

You will have to pull the HU. The instructions that were emailed to you earlier will show you how to return the wiring back to stock.

The hardest part I had was figuring out how to remove the wires from the harness in order to move them to the no-ipod locations. Use a small flat head screw driver to depress the (very) small metal tabs that hold the wires into the harness. I seem to remember having to move two or three wires around. I know this sounds odd but the factory wiring harness (without ipod) is set up slightly different than the harness with the oem-ipod hook up. Hope this helps...

Tom, you might want to reshoot those instructions. I never received an email with attached instructions. Just went and double checked. I did find instructions on here how to pull the HU.

SOS. Got into it and have two problems relatively early. I got the HU out no problem and got th OEM iPod adapter out. However, I can't see what to plug it back into. There is a DIN connector that was attacted from the radio to the OEM adapter but I don't see where to plug it in to anything. There is a white wire box that is free but on the wiring bundle but don't see where to plug it in to anything. Is the DIN ended cable part of the original setup or is i part of the Ipod connector?

Also, decided to go to the boot to make sure the CD harness was there but couldn't figure out how to get the rear trim panel off. All I see is one screw that I think I've read is actually a snap connector. HELP!

Ok, got a little closer but still stuck. How do you get the wires from the iPod cord out of the block on the back of the HU. And how do you get the original wires out of the black plug that was placed on the wiring harness to attach to the iPod DIN cord? SO CONFUSED!!!

How does the terminal removal tool (listing in the instructions and which I don't have) work and is there a tool I can use instead?

Nothing but the proper tools should be used. Pin removal tolls can be found at an electronics supply house (Radio Shack does not count) or have MINI return the vehicle back to stock for you.

Tom, I am in the same boat and need to remove the OEM adapter wiring in order to install the DICE kit. Could you send me the instructions on returning the wiring back to stock? Thanks!

No need to get the special tool if you have the newer version of the previos ipod adapter. All you will do is take the plastic holder off of the harness and then use an ice pick or very small precision screwdriver to lightly push on the tab. You will know what I am talking about when you take the radio out.

You won't be able to see the tabs while doing this removal.

To get the wires out of the harness, push a small flat-blade screwdriver into the small slot that is perpendicular to the wire end inside the harness. Each wire end (inside the harness) has a small spring-clip fastened to it that keeps it from pulling out of the harness. You need to depress this spring clip (tab) so that you can pull out the wire.

Note that you don't need to pull on the wire hard once you've gotten the tab pushed in. It should slide right out once depressed. Good luck...

Tom, got your instructions and I've got the iPod harness disconnected. I am having problems getting the wires out of the 4 pin connector. Any ideas?

I also assume that once I get them out I will have to change the terminals back to the original square terminal in order to reconnect to the car harness.

Any help would be appreciated!

Just reviewed the instructions again and realized that the instructions you sent (version 2.0) is not the installation I have. Mine is in line with version 1.0 from 2004. Ideas?

You will need a pin extractor to remove the pins. You have a response to your email.

Looking for these instructions as well if any of you are online. I've got the dash completely torn apart and then realized things weren't as I expected. And of course I installed the OEM adapter 2 years ago, so not much memory left of what I did then

I did email eas. But don't expect him to be in his email on a Sunday afternoon.
