Garmin Nuvi Dash Disk

The Garmins come with a dash disk that supposedly has some sort of super stick to it. It can be placed on the dash some where making it easy to suction cup your Garmin too. Looks like this set up would be easier and cheaper than all the setups I've seen folks come up with here, yes, some quite inventive. Has anyone used one of these disks? Does it stay on well? Is it a left handed pia to get off and what kind of mess does it leave? Anybody brave enought to say they actually used one instead of making some sort of custom mount?

I looked at it, and there didn't seem to be anywhere on the dash that was close eonugh to flat to even try it on.

The plastic cover for the windshield column to the left of the driver is flat enough for the disk. The Nuvi series is small enough to sit there and be in the way of nothing. I was thinking of making a small 1/4 " thick plexiglass disk the size of the stick on disk, counter sinking two screws in the disk and attaching it to the column. Then sticking the Garmin disk to that, etc al. When the car goes, take off the plexiglass disk, put two small button plugs in the screw holes and call it a day. Clean, cheap, and the button plugs would hardly be noticeable due to their location. The "fixture" would be very clean looking from all sides when used.

...er.... isn't there an airbag in there? I think so... if so, I wouldn't put ANYTHING on that cover... it would become a projectile if the airbag deployed...

I thought the only air bags the Cabrio had were in the steering wheel, the passanger side dash and on the front seats, the out sides of the back. Now you will have me busy checking to see.

Yep, just checked on MINI USA. Four bags, wheel, passanger dash, and sides of front seat backs. Still an option. Helps to be ambidextrious unless you are naturally left handed. My main concern for this location, if the gps comes off the mount, it may fly right out the window.

Maybe the hard top has more bags in it than we do.

Sorry - I zoned out there for a bit - I knew the cabrio didn't have them there... but failed to notice/remember that you had a cabrio (duh - I need to learn to read)... but good warning to any non-cabrio owners who might have read this thread and said "WOW - That's a GREAT idea!"...

Would rather be overly safe than sorry. Thanks!
