In the UK they have a TV tuner option for the Nav, so there must be a video input somewhere. Don't know if it also has an aux video input port. In the old system, the OEM video switchbox was not designed for consumer use as aux video although was possible to splice into the connectors for that purpose if you studied the wiring diagrams and figured it out. Several aftermarket vendors offered plug-and-play video switchboxes that made it easier. You could search to see whether there are any aftermarket video boxes for the new BMW 3 series, which I have heard uses the same Nav as the R56.

Video Module (TV Tuner) Wiring

The video input will probably not be active without a video source on the MOST ring.

Will do, if I do. ;-)

Not sure I will add a camera, we'll see. I'd probably wait to see if somebody else finds an easy video input spot .....

Is it just me, or am I an idiot that I don't understand a bit of this?

I would love to know if somehow these images give someone the understanding to create a simple RCA jack for Video and Stereo Audio that work with the Nav system. Is that what all this means?

If so, they say a fool and his money is easily parted. I would give someone $100 to explain that to me....

Huh??

BludyL,
What we are looking for is a Video input so we can input video and have it displayed on the LCD screen normally used for the Navigation and stereo display. This way, you can install a $50 backup camera in the bumber of your car, and have the video from it displayed on the LCD display. That's all.

So we are looking for the video input into the system. Car manufacturers are famous for "accidentally" NOT giving us any inputs (for audio or video) making it very difficult to make it work.

Does that help?

Right. I see. I think that's what I want too. So all these wiring schematics, I have no clue what I'm looking at... So what I was asking is does this provide you with the information to say wire a RCA Video input? I thought RCA was the general term for the three pinky sized plugs (one yellow, one red and one white) that you would normally connect a VCR to the back of a TV set.

Am I making any sense?

Yes, RCA's are the connectors used on you VCR.

The diagrams do NOT provide a location of RCA inputs. we think there are none. But, we can make them by wireing directly into the wires in those diagrams. That is what we are trying to figure out.

Buddy,
that only works for a UK version car, that has the TV option installed. In the Uk, they can order the car with a TV tuner built in that only works when the car is not moving. We do not have that option in the US. BUt, that does tell us there is a way to get video into the system!! ;-)

Hey Mikey, I LIKE IT!!! ;-)
Let us know when and where it's available. More importantly though, is some preamp outputs from the hifi amplifier, instead of from the back of the radio. Anyone working on that?

I sent the diagram of the MCS nav system (found above) to G-NET Incorporated to see if it looked like the system they supply for the BMW 3 Series. He thinks if ought to work and has a good return policy for anyone willing to give it a try.

My MCS is not even on the production schedule yet, so I have to wait.
