Which MTH - .de or -USA?

Is there any difference whether you get your MTH through Volker or through the MTH-USA, or will the final product be exactly the same? I guess I am wondering if the person behind the keyboard makes a difference in the product, and also if going local is any easier or not.

Final product is the same. MTH-USA is an agent of MTH.

There are multiple agents in the US. If you find one local to you, you don't have to borrow/rent/buy a cable. MTH-USA is based in Houston (and possibly relocating to San Antonio). If you buy your own cable you can reflash the ECU (say for autocross or the track versus the street) yourself.

Relocating to San Antonio?

Take that with a grain of salt. It's what I heard, but not directly from Pat.

Would be nice if MTH posted a list here on NAM of all their Agents in the USA.

The new MTH-powerchip.de store should be up soon, and all the distributors/agents ought to be listed on that.

That list looks like it's of MTH-USA distributors, not direct agents of MTH Germany. There are at least 2 additional direct agents in Texas alone, in Dallas and Houston. I'm one, and focus on North/Northeast Houston.

DotBob, so what does an MTH agent do exactly? I'm just curious how it works. Are the ECU reflashes already figured out and the agent determines which one is appropriate, or does someone figure out each car as ordered? And if so who does this?

The agent is a middleman, but can sell MTH (Standard or Tuner) for less than list price if they so choose. He/she can also provide other services, including handling the ECU download/upload so that you don't have to purchase a cable (typically about $100 to $130, depending on manufacturer and shipping cost). Each agents set their own rates.

The vehicle's VIN, current ECU file mapping (downloaded using CarTune, the MTH application), and list of engine mods are sent to MTH in Germany along with payment. They'll create the file mapping to upload back into the MINI and send it back to the agent (or direct to the customer).

I think this info is on one of the other MTH threads. I haven't kept up on all the MTH threads on NAM - usually just forums local to Texas.

Thanks for the info dotBob. I had read most of that, but not about the agents, and also wasnt sure if MTH Germany did it all or if MTH USA created mappings too.

I think its time for an agent to cut a deal to NAM members and pick up some extra business.
