CarTune Vehicle ID Problem
CarTune Vehicle ID Problem
Pat (tradiuz) from MTH-USA and I are currently working on a problem I'm having with CarTune. I am attempting to read and download the data from my June 2005 build Cooper S convertible, and per the Info section at MTH-USA, it should be using the Siemens EMS 5150 ECU chip.
When I use CarTune to ID the chip, it detects the car as a "R53 T? with Siemens EMS 5150," as it probably should. However, the Start Address and Length are both zero, which leads to a "Length is 0!" error when I try to download the file. Please see the attached screenshots of CarTune for a visual idea of what I'm referring to.
So I select the "R53 with Siemens EMS 2K" option from the pull-down menu, and have no trouble obtaining a valid Start Address and Length, which allows me to download the files. I sent these to Pat, who informs me that he always allows CarTune to automatically identify the chip, since it is never inaccurate. I take all the precautions to ensure that my Sensolutions MONO-USB cable is well-seated in the OBDII connector, and that all extraneous programs/processes on my notebook running WinXP are stopped, with no progress.
This is not my first experience with MTH chiptuning - I had MTH back when Franz was tuning files for just the price of CarTune on my older Cooper, and I never encountered anything like this. I am hoping that someone with CarTune experience (perhaps Volker?) can be of assistance with this one. Is this a case of an improper identification by CarTune, and I can procced with having the files identified as from the Siemens EMS 2K tuned and uploaded? Or will that be detrimental to my Mini? Is there something that I've neglected to do that caused the improper ID? Thanks in advance!

I tried setting the COM port to 1 and 2, both with no success.
I've also tried manually inputting the Start Address and Length as 70000 and ef10 respectively to download the file with Siemens EMS 5150 selected, and that causes the error "Car electronics not supported!" pop up.
I've also attempted what Morales suggested in Post #16 here, again with no success:

I understand that CarTune is not a MTH product, but it is integral to customers who actually want to use the MTH tune on their cars. Maybe I'm wrong, and this isn't a CarTune error. Pat still hasn't responded to me since Wednesday morning - maybe he's on holiday? I've got a dyno day coming up next Saturday, and I was looking forward to seeing how MTH will improve performance.

Thanks to BMDoubleU for going completely out of his way to help!
I've got the files properly downloaded now. The trouble happened to be with the Dell that I borrowed for the download - even though I had stopped all processes that were extraneous, it refused to download the original files.
The last time I did MTH, I had my trusty old ThinkPad, and never encountered a single error. Go figure.

This is an interesting thread to me because all I have ever used was the R53 with Siemens EMS 2K option. I have downloaded files and uploaded files several times without a problem. Should I be using something different and does it make a difference?

.. (your LSD will make all the extra power usable)I hope to push 180-185 whp with MTH on top of my other mods. Here's hoping I receive it by Friday for the dyno on Saturday! :impatient

If only I hadn't sold my ThinkPad - my only notebook now is an Apple iBook that works great for everything but MTH.
I'll just have to borrow one from work once I get the files back for uploading.
