the 15k example (that turned out to be 155k) got me thinking about this...
I'm using that challenge jcw in canada as a baseline for the moment. It took a while but sold at ~10k. I wouldnt go over 10k for a low mileage non GP. YMMV

I hate NAV too. Has anyone ever looked into whether NAV can be removed and retrofitted with the cockpit chrono option?

Yes. Everything worked great except my DSC light was permanently on and it read the mileage of the donor car, which in my case was +50k miles. After 150 miles, your car will permanently display an odometer tamper dot no matter which gauge you have installed. Not worth the trouble. I’ve been told software programming can fix, but that’s above my ability.

Even though by replacing the NAV with chrono, you're not even touching the speedometer/odometer?

The center cluster, whether speedo, NAV, or Chrono, is the main unit for the car mileage and other things and the steering column gauge(s) are run off of the center cluster. A used center cluster will display the previous cars mileage and possibly have idiot light issues depending on the previous cars options.

The difference in car configurations probably is causing the DSC light issue on burley's car

Not on CL,
but here's a very interesting car...

06 MCS
$24,950
5,450 miles

HEAVILY MODIFIED.
http://www.parkplaceltd.com/used-car...RE33586TN29351

Although the dealer incorrectly states that "This Mini was ordered and delivered as one of the last JCW (John Cooper Works) equipped R53 version cars for the US market..., if the provided VIN is correct it's not a JCW, but that doesn't really matter in this case anyway.

Shame the dealer didn't see fit to include engine bay pictures.

Kinda funny that they put the GP rear bar in there. Isnt it not actually a real tower support but just something to keep things from sliding forward into the front seats?

I would darn well hope it is a tower support. They have it as a harness bar.

Maybe it is modified and actually made to be structural. I would assume so, given the harnesses

I actually think the GP was was always for stiffening.

Nope, the bar just bolts into the bodywork on the GP. It doesnt actually grab on to the tower at all. I have no clue how harnesses are usually setup but it looks like it would have to shear 8 or 9 bolts with how they have it setup to completely fail.

I imagine youre probably right in that its modified in some way. But, it still isnt going to the tower if theyre using the stock gp interior moldings.

Oh wow. Seems kind of sketchy as a harness bar then. Hard to say what is under the plastic though I suppose.

Bought the 2004 MCS-JCW in CT

Hope to have it on the track this summer in the Northeast. Just need a brake upgrade. Maybe TCE/Wilwood on front if they fit with the R90 wheels.

Yep the bar was for luggage not to slide around. I remember talking to MINUSA at the GP product launch during MTTS 2006.

Getting back on topic with a 2004 Electric Blue JCW with Aerokit $6800. Also has paint matched arches and R90s.

That does look like a nice one, but I'm not a fan of the nav package.

Here's a bargain priced 06 JCW, but mileage is unspecified...

They also call it a turbo when it's supercharged...

Yes, I've come across that quite a bit while looking, both from dealers and private sellers.

I've also seen quite a few dealers list a car as auto when it is actually manual.
I just don't understand how they could misidentify that!
Here's one listed as automatic trans:
06 MCS slicktop
70k
$3,900
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/la...475188116.html

In the last several months I've only seen one car on CL that motivated me to contact the seller -- it was local and looked to be in fine order. I called the seller several times and left a voice message and there was no response, I also emailed and still no response, then it was de-listed. It was very frustrating to finally find a good car and not be able to contact the seller!

Wish I could find a slicktop with roof in body color, but they seem scarce and whenever I do come across one it's all the way across the country.
At this point I am willing to make a flight out if the car looks good,
too bad this one is an automatic or I might consider it:
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...2053/overview/

Back to CL,
I really enjoy seeing all the different cars as many have mods moreso than commercial dealer listings.
Some things make me scratch my head though,
like this hood outlet for an M7 i/c...
06 MCS "racer"
60k
$6,500
https://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/...473169018.html

...although it seems like a good idea, I'm not sure I would want that sort of setup.

Every now and then I like to look at ebay.co.uk.
These Recaro seats are supersweet:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-06-B...p2047675.l2557

You can find them offered for sale too:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Mini-...oAAOSw8R9aWIca

Were those particular seats ever an option in the USA?

The JCW Recaro and Sparo seats on the first gen didn’t come with passenger occupancy sensors which were required in US.

it was possible to order them overseas and pay for shipping, but crazy expensive.

I like that one. I always wonder why people would say "many mods" and not take the 2 minutes to list them all. I would like to know specifics and it probably adds quite a bit of value.

I don't understand it either as it is in the sellers best interest.
It's odd but many CL ads are pretty lame with poor descriptions and lousy pictures.

Here are a couple of cars with extensive mods listed:

04 MCS JCW slicktop
81k
$5,000
https://visalia.craigslist.org/cto/d...476456107.html

04 MCS
104k
$8,500
https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/...467028072.html

Here's a really good looking MCS with a nice mod list and also a well-written explanation of why it has a salvage title.
Seems like a good bargain.

06 MCS
75k
$4,000
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto...476219257.html

Here's a rare Black Eye Purple (I think?), but it also has something about it which prompt a question on my part.
Notice how the exhaust looks askew and out of whack?
I've seen this trait on quite a many examples I've viewed.
What is the deal with that?
Simply out of alignment or an undone hanger or what?

05 MCS slicktop
84k
$4,995
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/la...472004856.html

This looks like an honest presentation, and a really nice buy for $4K (if it checks out) to just drive the heck out of it.
