That's still a haul. I'd use approximately 70 gallons of gas driving out there and hauling it back (Estimated 12 mpg there, 10 mpg towing back) from your location. That's $200 just in gas to get the car. Plus renting a tow dolly.

From my location it would be about 100 gallons, so roughly $300 in gas just to haul it. Plus a tow dolly rental. That's extreme unless it is the deal of the century.

I keep an eye out for stuff coming out of Philly, Bulletmore, and DC. That's about as far as I'm willing to travel for a good deal.

Upside is, you can give away those S-Lites once you get the car.

I've been laying off posting lately because I'm still not actually an owner and feel sort of goofy for posting so much, plus I've been swamped at work with out-of-town travel.

Anyway, I'm still looking and hoping I find the right MCS/JCW that's relatively close to home.

Just saw this which may be a good deal but then again the owner has set it up for drift so ain't no tellin' what it'd take to get it up to snuff as it has likely been pretty well thrashed...

06 JCW

$3999

https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto...517334034.html

...And,
in other news,
yesterday I went for a looksee and testdrive of a 1972 Opel Ascona A because it's only 15 minutes away from me.
Wow.
Good Deals on CL-oez7vmt.jpg
What a fun car!
It crunk right up and had a lovely burble purr with solid idle, and it ran rather well on the drive with no stumbling or hiccups,
although the suspension seemed to be pretty dang surfy and slightly sloppy.

None of the instrumentation was working so no idea of rpm, fuel level, speed, or temp.

http://www.craigslistadsaver.com/view.php?name=72Opel

And YIKES! what a scary car --- no, this ain't no all original barn find, it's been heavily messed with in various weird ways, for starters it has a Manta front clip welded on, and from there it just gets more curiouser and curiouser.

I sort of fell in love with it though , but I'm also kinda scared of getting into a spectacular headache of parts sourcing because I would have to at least try to get it up to some sort of proper state if I do actually did get it, and I mean it needs stuff like wiper arms fer chrissakes, a proper bonnet, climate controls, various rubber seals, and lots of other stuff, plus the previous owner swapped many disparate parts together for example like Honda rear disc brakes and front susp. components from a Vega and who knows what else and it may be a nightmare to try and figure out whats what.

I found a build thread from the guy who put this thing together and actually joined the forum so I could see the pix,
and indeed it is a "junkyard dawg"...

http://www.opelgt.com/forums/ascona-...eady-hunt.html

Reading everything in that thread should scare me off running for the hills LOL,
but it still dances in my maniacal mind.

I had cash in my pocket ready to buy, but backed off and said I'd sleep on it and let him know tomorrow one way or the other.
The lowest he'll take is $3500.

I'm awake now and think I'll pass even though it'd be a really neat and fun car to own, just too much of an indepth project to get sorted at this time for me.

Crazy deal here. Only consider if you don't have obd2 requirements as it has a standalone ecu. https://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/...521196693.html

2006 GP in San Francisco, with 132K miles for $8,000. No accidents. Owner has had it since 10K miles. Could have potential.

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/6530384067.html

No affiliation.

Tempting price, but if someone can't clean their wheels, I wonder what else they can't be bothered to do.

Understand your point, but I think you have to look at this one as a SF city DD, with all the requisite scratches and dings that probably come with it and an owner who is not a detail fanatic. The maintenance history and records would be most critical to me at 132K miles. Tempting price if mechanically well maintained....

GP is gone and MC40 is a guy I know from Cars and Coffee. He had another MINI also I believe. The seats have been swapped out.

Someone go get this...its stupid clean

05 MCS for $6350. Its kinda high mileage (100k) but it looks like its one owner and the guy has every record ever in a binder. If it didn't have nav I probably wouldve bought it already.

Agree - all 4 packages, great color, webspokes, super clean
Also Agree - I hate Nav in a Mini and automatically pass too. It sounds too costly/problematic to try to swap out Nav with say the Chrono option.

Agree, it is a scam ad. Usually one, non-high resolution picture is a scam.

Google image search is your friend for craigslist ads. That car is for sale in texas for 8500 dollars with 96k miles here: https://www.hattonsgermanimports.com..._270499155.veh

That CL ad is a scam

It makes me wonder why people bother with scams like this, they are always immediately identifiable. What is the end game?

One need only peruse youtube for "crazy walmart customers" to identify who this ads target audience is. I'm sure the end goal is either to collect information about people or to solicit a money order in exchange for shipping that never arrives.

I bet if you send an inquiry about the car it will suddenly be located somewhere other than baltimore. But the owner will happily ship it to you for free, or hardly anything.

Stupid people? They certainly are breeding well enough to keep the scammers hungry.

And that doesn't throw up a million and a half red flags.

As if the poorly written, outrageously priced, limited picture ad didn't do that in the first place.

I’ll do my due diligence next time before posting an ad, I just saw it and tossed it up. A learning experience nonetheless!

now that looks like a good deal! Needs few cosmetic items (like different wheels and both Aero grills), but that’s a good price on a low mile fJCW

Nice find, and I can personally vouch for 99% of Naperville residents. Its an incredibly affluent suburb of Chicago, and I'm sure this thing has a pile of paperwork for maintenance. Its got big brake kit, but 16" wheels.. Must be winter wheels.

I used to live in Naperville, and bought 2 Coopers in town.. They were both incredibly well taken care of. The dealerships there are complete dirtbags though.. Excluding Mini of course.
