There are 2 minis I wont touch.
1) Any water related rebuilt title. It may work today, but who knows in 5 years. Hell, who knows in 6 months. Would you buy an iPhone that was dropped in fresh water? You car has all the same parts.
2) Any R56. There are so many engine related issues that will leave you stranded. Check out the R56 reliability pages. If you're familiar, and willing to roll the dice go for it. Not every R56 is a lemon.
You asked
I personally dont care if the iphone was dipped in water or sauce. if it works and proven to work, then it will continue to work. There might be glitches with it, but even brand new phones have glitches too!
2nd gen Minis were probably misunderstood in my opinion. People were changing oil every 10k (per dealer recommendation)! and because of the turbo, you have carbon build up just like any turboed car.
I had three flooded minis: 1 for 18 months, the other 2 for 3 years. You would never know they were flooded unless i tell you! (2 were sold btw. the third was a mistake purchase! at the time i didnt know what certificate of destruction meant
)
still, your answer didnt answer my question
I guess I will just post it then and see for myself

No idea what R56 prices are like, especially titled ones. Sorry.
Good luck with the sale.
KBB says a car of that spec with a clean title is at 18-20k. Thats laughable IMO. The Philly craigslist has one 2nd gen convertible up and is asking 14k from a dealer. Referencing the LA craigslist, everything is more expensive and people dig convertibles in CA, low mileage clean title 2nd gens appear to be asking 12-15k. Its reasonable to expect some haggling so lets call an average potential selling price of 13k. Kbb says 20-40% off for salvage. Soooooooo lets call it $8000-$10000 as an asking price and I'd expect to see $7000-$9000 as a realistic selling price
I didn't even know about that interior styling was an upgrade! Great news!
I actually got the price dropped because they screwed up the title. I'm in the car at only $11,000!
The car's paint has a small imperfection that my Dad caught. We could fix it for $350 but instead... I'm going to repaint it! My wife wasn't too keen on the color so this is the perfect fix.
I'm going to create a new topic as I try to decide what color to pick! Thanks for everyone's help. Risky purchase but happy to be adding another MINI to the collection.

Valid points, I got excited about the LSD. As a general rule I avoid Jersey and New York for just about any reason I can.

Finding a JCW motor might be tough.. Would kind of suck to replace with a standard engine. No idea how much legwork, but if you're looking for a project maybe. If you're paying to have it done, there are most likely better options out there. Good parts car candidate though (for $1k).
I'd give him $500. Maybe, if it was clean.

People pay $300-$400 for a used JCW exhaust? I shouldn't have started cutting mine up...

And this is a Justa base motor R52. This one is a JCW. Dont know if any of the engine is reusable, but the supercharger might be worth $300 alone. If the body is in good shape, bumpers are $2-300 each (junk yards sell for $7-800).
If you have the room for a parts car and live nearby, this would be an awesome buy. Its great having a donor car to keep your primary running.
I've parted bikes and cars before, I just didn't realize the JCW parts brought that much used.
I live in Pennsylvania OG Amish country, not Indiana Amish country. That car is 550 miles from me, definitely not worth it.

If it was in really good condition and I had a trailer I would maybe drive 150-200 miles.

Hmmmm. Turns out its 340 miles away and the engine still works, just knocks. Might make for an interesting road trip.
EDIT: Also, "brand new S-lites".

Another EDIT: Car is sold. I'm too late
