The timing seems to never be right for me as I always seem to be skint broke when such opportunities pop up.
- Hey Jonny - that car is Vulkandino’s car. The GP for sale on another thread. Such an amazing car that is definitely fast and well/properly taken care of... I wish I was in the hunt for a GP. But I just don’t want to sink that much into a fun weekend car for spirited driving. That’s nearly a race car inside of a mini. Atleast, that’s how I interpret what all the car has! Lol. I need rear seats for my fun car. So a JCW would be the limit for my budget and wants. Maybe an “S” with the right stuff gets my money. But I’d love to find that JCW that’s just right.
Yeah I realized that after I posted it. I’m with you, back seats come in handy. Even though the GP is about as much as you can pull out of a mini, I’d still prefer a JCW with aero kit. Not a big fan of the GP paint scheme, wheels etc.
Looks pretty clean too although 150k+ mileage may be somewhat of a concern, regardless I think it's a great deal given that it's an ultra rare BEP JCW w/ full aerokit.
Always love to see an engine shot and this one looks great compared to many of the northern cars I've seen where there's that ugly corrosion on the aluminium, and it appears to have coilovers too although I'm not certain?
Will say that those are the most ill fitting plug wires I've ever seen tho, LOL
Just a friendly reminder to post some key facts with your links so that we have some info once the listings get removed.
for example
2004 Cooper S MC40 205k miles $5500 seats replaced with normal black and gray Cooper S seats. Supposedly has JCW suspension and Brake kit and has its Paddy Hopkirk Plaque
2004 Mini Cooper S (BRG)
Clean Title, New PCV valve, New timing chain tensioner, New plugs and wires, New battery, oil change 129k miles - All original features of the vehicle operational. (AC blows but not cold and won’t take a charge) *undiagnosed engine noise near super charger or timing chain assembly*
The last part is my fear... this could be 1,000’s in repair to get this car “proper”. ;(
I found this on FB: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...6091151051749/

2004 Cooper S - Pretty Blue! Looks pretty clean inside and out. Not a lot of details...

Annnnd another BRG Cooper S: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...5303174748679/
2005 BRG Cooper S. Says clutch replaced at 90K. Car has ~118k. Looks fairly nice. I like this one a lot. Just gotta get more details.
Interesting with FB Marketplace ads that sellers rarely take the time to provide any details (much less the basic important ones). These are more likely people who view their cars simply as appliances, not the true MINI enthusiasts. You may actually be able to find a diamond in the rough, but I think it will be tough. I would expect to have to put some $$ into deferred maintenance on any of those listed cars.
I’ve recently been hitting FB more often hoping to find the particular JCW I’m looking for. I’ve been at this for like two years and prepared to buy out of state. I agree that FB sellers seem to list their cars there as an afterthought, as with the preparation and information of the vehicles. I’d say 98% is a no go for me. I’m really trying to get this thread active hoping someone will post something I haven’t found yet.
05/06 JCW Full aero kit, blue grey black 80k miles or less/ 8-$9000...Over 80k miles 5-$8000
I bought my 03 MCS recently on FB marketplace. Electric blue, clean blue/black factory leather, JCW kit, tein coilovers, 84k miles. I mostly was attracted to it for the mileage and JCW aspect. And clean carfax, no accidents. He asked for $5500. I paid $4400. I needed to find someone really close or willing to drive to my area with my lack of car and the current pandemic.
FB had way more R53s for sale close to me, compared to autotrader, cars.com, etc..
I even found a few on OfferUp in my search.
There are a ton of “modified” cars on FB compared to something like autotrader. There were some really nice older Honda Preludes in my area on FB With tasteful modifications. but tons of terrible Hondas and other random trash. Cars not running, etc.
$4400 is righteous for that car...congratulations. No doubt FB has an abundance of r53 I just wish you could search JCW in the criteria. Drives me nuts having to look through all of the listing to find the JCWs
I could almost walk to that dealership. Got real excited until I seen it was a 2013. If it were a 2006, I’d be driving it tomorrow. Probably gonna take it for a drive anyway.

Wow two years....I've been at it for 4-6 months and it feels hopeless lol. Any advice for someone getting weary on their journey? Or from someone who found their dream MINI after a lot of searching? I'm not sure how much to compromise on what I really want.
Side note, I have been using FB more recently too. There's a lot of overlap from websites I typically search separately.

Ahh well I hope you get something good out of it. R56 is my jam, but I totally understand because I don't like the 3rd gens...

my advice is that the longer the search the more great the reward so don’t lose heart and keep looking.
of course I was lucky to only take about 3 months to find almost my dream build, it just cost a pretty premium. I guess my other advice is to either widen your “wants and needs” or be prepared to pay that premium.
