I have a confirmed GP at my dealer that will be shipped later this month (dealer still doesn't have exact delivery date, but they were told soon). I have a VIN and everything. I was planning on keeping the car (and still want to), but it doesn't look like I will be able to afford it. I thought I would put my confirmed spot for sale and see if there is any interest.

The dealer is charging $1000 over MSRP, and I am asking $4000 for my spot. I've already put a $1000 deposit down, so you'd be getting the car for $4000 over MSRP and only paying taxes on $1000 over. I've called many dealers and couldn't find any available GP's except a couple in Miami that were $10,000 over MSRP. This is all contengent on no one from my family wanting the car (there has been interest). If interested, email me or PM me and we can discuss a deal. Thanks for your interest.

I'm not looking for a flame war, but I don't see why you should profit from this.

Thanks for the suggestion, I already planned on putting it up on ebay later today or tomorrow, I just wanted to see if a MINI enthusiast wanted the car first. Thanks for the bumps though.

Capitalism at it's finest.

Good luck with selling your spot, I hope you make a killing.

Hmmm... Profit from an enthusiast? That doesn't sound like the NAM community to me. Maybe I am wrong

Have you seen the price of mods? We're a freakin' gold mine!

Personally I don't see anything wrong with this at all. If you don't want to pay, then don't. If they can get an extra $4K, then great, it's better than someone would do if they tried other dealers listed. I'd look at it as a $6K savings if I were in FL.

I see your point and I guess if you can make a buck why not? My approach is that the GP spot was unavailable to somebody who may really have wanted one. If somebody was holding it with a view to making a profit, that is somehow "not cricket", if they just decided that they either couldn't afford it because of a pregnancy or lay-off at work, then they should be grateful to be released from the obligation.
I guess I see it a bit like ticket-scalping. Raising the price of attending a concert for the true fans.

Sorry for any bad comment, I saw it Similar to the way Hu99 did. But I guess I shouldn't judge so quickly. I apologize.

I love how people have become almost offended by the fact that he's trying to money on a sold out car. It's his right to try and make money on it, and I don't blame him at all. He's has something that a lot of people don't have, a GP spot....and to me that's worth $$$$$.

Look at the price of our mods compared to other cars in the same price range, we're paying a premium to deck out our Mini's, and yet no one ever seems offended when a catback goes for $900!!!! Just like Hu99 said, we're gold mines, even if some of us don't have very much gold

Stop the drama and let the man sell the car the way he wants

This WILL take the cooperation of the dealer to re-assign the spot to another. Sort of makes them a party, I hope she at least has to split the $$'s with her dealer. Or she can buy it and re-sell it and make money the old-fashioned way. Now we are selling "futures" on car orders, I thought the pre-order and wait was bad enough. This does effect all others trying to get a price on a car. Maybe she'll end up losing her deposit, we can only hope and pray it was designated non-refundable. He is NOT selling a car, he's speculating on a future market for this particular car.

All I am saying is that I know at our dealer a customer put $ down on 2 GP's so they could have one for themselves and sell the other when it came in. In my opinion I just think that sucks. The entire reason that person bought 2 is to resell and make $ off of it. C'mon, give a person a chance to just pay sticker for it like everyone else did that ordered one. Like I said this is only my opinion. I retract my comments if this individual has come on some hardtimes. Maybe I just like to have a level playing field for all. I could be crazy though.
Good luck with the sale.

I suppose that she may have a non refundable deposite and by trying to sell her spot MINI may cancell her order and she will get a refund.

I really can't believe this....

Most states require the deposit be refundable, but you have to check the particular in yours....

But SO WHAT if a profit is made. Any chance that MAYBE after waiting (tying upt he $ as well) for the car, that one could reconsider? And look at other low production cars..... Since when was there a right to buy at MSRP... Remember the S stands for suggested....

I was thinking of the new Mustang Shelby GT 500, but with a $28k premium on them, forget it! And if you don't like this deal, just don't buy it but why take the time to spout all the negative stuff about something that is perfectly legal (even if some details need to be worked out) and the underpinning of capitalism.

What all of you are really asking for is a world where demand doesn't drive up price. Don't think it's possible without sever structural changes.....

Matt

Your comparing a Shelby Mustang with a GP

You cant be serious. The Shelby is not worth $28K over but it WILL bring in the premium prices because of the huge amount of ppl who want it.

There are GPs on cars.com and other sights. Ppl buy them for an "investment"

Lots of luck ... theres one born every minute (P. Barnum)

Thanks for all the opinions everyone. Here are the facts:

-I am unable to take delivery of the GP I put a deposit down for over 6 months ago
-I have spoken with my MA about me passing my GP onto someone I desiginate and there is no problem with this (ie very little hassle, no more paperwork than is normally required to buy a car from a dealer)
-The 2 currently on ebay: 1 starting at $45,000 located in Ohio ($14,000 over MSRP)
1 starting at $15,000 (with reserve and has very little details about the transaction)
-I'm open to offers, but only resonable ones
-I'm not the one "raising ticket prices for the true fans", the dealers asking $5000,$6000,$10000 over MSRP were the ones, I'm just trying to get what I believe is fair market value. If it's not, no one will buy it. This is what I'm asking, like it or not.

I appriciate all the feedback, but if you don't think the deal is reasonable, then don't concern yourself. As it stands, I've received a little bit of interest but no offers yet. I will be putting it up on ebay tonight.

FYI: This is not an unprecidented idea given that many GP's have been sold this way already, and if people will remember, when the Elise's become US legal, people were selling their reserved spots on the list months before the cars were even produced.

Where's the problem? The kid makes some money and someone gets a GP for less than they would somewhere else. Hate the game, not the playah.
