Looking for a 2004 MCS MC40

Does anyone know what the MC40 package included? Was it offered side-by-side with all of the other "normal" Mini packages (Premium, Sport, Cold Weather, Convenience, JCW)? Or was it an "either - or" type of option package. Seems like most of the MC40s I see listed for sale were sparsely optioned.

WHOA, if you had only asked that three weeks AGO!!! I would have had a deal for you! FULL JCW car (all the bits)

To answer your questions

Does anyone know what the MC40 package included?

The MC40 option. It was just an option you ticked off the box. They are far from sparesly optioned, many ppl did not like them because they had too much bling.
  1. DSC
  2. Red & Black Leather seats (not available to any other MINI)
  3. JCW CF Dash
  4. Numbered plaque signed by Paddy H
  5. MC40 rubber Mats
  6. MC40 Shift ****
  7. Set of Decals
  8. Set of Magentic Square 37 numbers
  9. Driving lights
  10. Auxiliary gauges
  11. Xenons
  12. Front Fogs
  13. Rear Fogs
  14. 3 Spoke Sport Steering Wheel
  15. Two Piece R90 Wheels in Anthracite (BBS)
Was it offered side-by-side with all of the other "normal" Mini packages (Premium, Sport, Cold Weather, Convenience, JCW)?

No. You got the single option, thats it. However, anything MINI sells that is dealer installed, you dealer installs. For example, I had the dealer install the JCW TC, suspension, brakes, strut bar, CF bits, sills, mats, etc.

Seems like most of the MC40s I see listed for sale were sparsely optioned.'

MC40 option was $7K. Most of that money is in the leather seats, JCW CF Dash, and the R90s (which in anthracite are still the most expensive wheels MINI sells). If your looking for cruise or heated seats ... look elsewhere. It was supposed to be a tribute to Rallye cars ... No nav, no fancy radio, etc.

If you want to see some pics, just let me know

Well thanks for the info. At the risk of further kicking myself in the @$$, what did you sell it for?

chows4us -- thanks for the info, yes, I'm kicking myself.

gort -- ok, I'm game. Let's talk. Timing sounds like it would be good for me. Where are you located? I travel a lot for work, so I'm hoping I can come up with a reason to visit your part of the country.

I'll be trading mine in next week for a full JCW packaged vehicle. Dealer told me they would probably send it to auction if they had no immediate interest. Has the Alta Pulley 15%, Alta cold air intake, MY Mini exhaust. 18k miles
Dealer will be Lauderdale MINI, salesman Marc.

No interest in selling it direct?

I'd lose my tax break on the trade in that way. I'm pretty sure if you contact them directly and let them know I'm sending you they'll make a deal.

Yeah, but I'd probably give you more for it than the dealer would in trade (I think -- no way in knowing unless you tell me what the dealer is giving you).

Interested . . . . of course I am!

Yes, interested. Several questions: 1) where is the car located? 2) how many miles? 3) which options / packages? 4) price?

Thanks

Our MC40 is in Colorado (Denver Metro area), It now has approx. 9,200 miles. It is Edition #509. The only option is the Monte Carlo Commemorative Package. All the decals are on the car. We are asking $23,600.

Are these cars getting a premium price for being "special" these days?

I remember dealers having a hard time selling them when they came out because most people wanted to order their own custom MINI.

When I tried to trade-in my Nissan Altima for the MINI, my MINI dealer made a pathetic offer on the trade-in. They did, however, offer to broker the deal if I could find a buyer.

I posted the car on Craigslist.com and found a buyer. The two of us negotiated a price. On the sale day, I picked up the buyer and we both went to the dealership. I sold the Altima to the dealer (to get my tax bonus) and the dealer immediately sold the Altima to the buyer for the price we agreed on (plus a doc fee that I think was $75). The buyer knew that everything was above board and all of the paperwork was taken care of (no trip to the DMV). I got my sales tax break on the new MINI for the price of the Altima purchase and I got a fair price for the car. Everyone was happy and we both drove home in our new rides.

As far as the MC40s going for a premium . . . I hadn't (up to this point) observed that they were going for a premium, and didn't count on paying a premium, and am not interested if the buyer is asking for a premium. I understand others may feel differently, but my attraction to this car is purely cosmetic. I'm not interested in it because I feel or believe in any way that it is a "collectible".

"Premium Price"?? Not sure what that means in this case. We went to Auto Trader and checked out the asking prices on all 2004 Mini Coopers (not just the MC40) for an idea on an asking price. This is not a premium price as far as I can see. We bought this car for the way it looked inside and out. The MC40 package was great for us and turns a lot of heads as well.

I think it's safe to say "One man's premium is another man's bargain"
I am getting $21,000 for mine on trade-in.
The first dealer I checked only offered me $18,000 for trade-in . They then wanted to charge me a premium for the GP of $37,000. (No accessories, just the GP package) I walked. No hard feelings and no deal.

Quick question: how many of the cars on Autotrader with similar miles and asking prices are actually selling at those prices from private invdividuals?

And to most, I think, if given a choice between a 2004 MC40 and a 2005 MCS w/JCW (and two option packages) for an 'extra' $1k, I think most would take the 2005 JCW. That's really what this all boils down to: what's the next best alternative?

Three places to look if you actually want real data on what these cars are transacting at: edmunds tmv, closed eBay auctions that resulted in a sale, and Manheims auctions. Anything other than those three and your'e looking at anything from dealer sales, dealer asking prices, overly optimistic private seller asking prices or the like.

To the poster whose dealer was giving them $21k -- dealer will re-coup the trade in on the sales prices + financing on the new vehicle. Ask them what they're willing to buy your car for outright (i.e. no new car sale) and you'll get the real number they're willing to pay (a la CarMax).
