Being a MINI and a sportbike owner, you'd think I'd know more of the good roads around here, but I'm ashamed to admit that I don't. As it warms up, I, too, will take what little free time I have and mount my trusty Honda (or the MINI if the wife will ever part with it!!) and make some exploratory runs.

Hopefully we'll find a vibrant MINI community down here. Here' hopin!

Oh yea...a COS chapter. I could make a meeting! I'm so excited I have to sit down......

Okay all better.

I see a Mini's all the time here is COS. I run from one end of town and side to side. I may not know street names but I can get there in record time! The most frequent is a red with white bonnet stripes Mini going south on I-25 about 7:45amish at about Bijou. I see it only when I'm running late. I also see a yellow Mini about the Cimmarron & I-25 area often too. But I would say I see about 5 Minis a day on average.

I would love to help out with whatever to keep a COS chapter going. I can do whatever.

I had a record breaking day yesterday - saw three, count 'em, THREE CR/W Cooper/Cooper S running all over town. Two going north on I-25, one with the UJ roof decal. And at work (SAFB) there's a BRG/B, EB/W, and IB/W - joined by our DS/B if and when the wife lets it go.

So - if any of you MINI pilots ever get beeped at or waved at by a guy on a black Honda 919 or in a dark red Honda Pilot, it's just me.

Any idea when and where COS meetings might be?

Bill

Mini sightings way up?

It seems like I see a ton of MINIs everywhere I go these days. Is this a summer only car for a lot of people or are they just starting to sell in greater numbers? Maybe it's just me, but I swear there are more manys out there than a month or two ago.

Elbert County MINI sighting

Yesterday, Monday afternoon at 4:30, westbound on Hwy 86 near Kiowa.

I was eastbound, on my way back from the Dragon.

Dark Silver, they waved..

Hello Slates

Pls keep your eye on our calendar. We have a PeachFest run coming up, and rides to Keystone and Frisco this summer, too.

See our calendar right here in NAM....

My wife commutes from COS to Denver most days, she sees a gazillion (well, maybe not a gazillion, but a lot) of MINIs just about every day - but with me working in COS, I'm a little 'MINI deprived' - don't see too many here, and the ones I DO see, well, I see 'em when I'm on my bike or in my Pilot, so if I wave, they just look at me weird - with that "Just ignore him, maybe he'll go away" look. Doesn't stop me from waving, though.

Bad me!

I must admit I am not a waver. I am so caught up in my driving I don't remember to wave. I usually zip around town (autocross style) with the music blarring ( and me singing away) that I simply can't get my hands off the steering wheel soon enough to wave.

My husband tries to beep when he sees others but he can't remember where the horn is so he ends up hitting the airbag! LOL

Whoohoo - glad to see so many COS mini sightings on here - that's super. Big Ripper I think I saw you up on Powers & Research by Wolf Ranch - you were pulled over on the side resetting your computer a few weeks back? I'm Silver with black stripes. Was that you? I think I used to always see you on the way to work too - Woodmen?

My husband and I would love to get involved with the COS chapter - we were going to go to the Canyon City ride but I was 9 months pregnant at the time and thought it might be a little crazy . But she's out now and we are ready to motor! Hopefully we will meet all you guys at the picnic. By the way - how do I become a member?

Ciao

Glad to hear from you

Yes that was me. Let me just say what an absolute sweetheart you were to stop and see if I needed help. Fantastic to see the MINI motoring spirit still alive here in the Springs. I thought I spied a baby carrier in your back seat when I looked up in my rearview. I still can't believe I forgot to give you a 5280 card. Duh

Those times you spotted me on Woodmen I was actually headed home. I am an RN in the ICU @ Penrose Main...I work nights. You haven't seen me there recently because I have taken to working out in the Hospital gym after work...so I am usually on Woodmen around 9:20-10:00 AM.

Hopefully we will meet up at one of the events. I'm sure my wife would like to meet you...Always good for her to be around other female MINIacs.

See ya round,

Sean

Yeah I think I'm the only mini in town sporting the baby first years window blinds, I know you guys are jealous. Many people told me I couldn't fit a baby in a mini - I proved them wrong! Hee hee. I won't mention the fact that her jogging stroller doesn't fit, but that's ok as long as the seat fits we are all good.

Ok a few questions - Have they picked a site for the COS picnic yet? I thought Fox Run Park or Bear Creek would be nice- they both have some pretty big fields that we can do ultimate frisbee, volleyball, or even bocci ball - don't even get me started...just kidding. So I am pretty new to this site and haven't figured out how to sign up for the picnic yet, I went to the calender but didn't see how you sign up? Sorry I'm a dork.

Also - you were resetting your computer, is that something we are supposed to do every now and then? Don't know a thing about mini maintenance, I took the mini for it's oil change but that's about it. I know I had to reset it after I got flat tires, but is there another reason I would do it and when?

OK think that's all my questions for now. Oh and how do I pay my member dues?

Seriously finished now.

Ciao

As far as I know a park has not yet been picked. My vote would be for Bear Creek. Besides the fact that it is a great park, I doesn't have any dirt roads...so my MINI won't get dirty.

Ultimate frisbee would be an absolute blast if we have enought willing members. I suppose even a few folks would be interested in some crazy Italian games. I don't suppose you know anyone with a Bocci ball set?

I checked the calednar and it appears that there is not yeat a "Sign Up" button. You aren't a dork.

This is something you will not ever likely ever have to be worried about. This is a procedure that is more widely used by "S" owners. The process involves reseting the computer and the following the reset with a short AGGRESSIVE drive. So right after you pulled out from checking on me...I tore up and down Powers (between Research and Woodmen) shifting near red line through most gears and just absolutely burying the throttle. Why do this you ask? So the computer learns how I want the engine to perform.

Questions are welcome...don't worry, I have good typing skills.

Yep - got the Bocci ball set, horseshoes and even croquet. We are all about the old folks games. We have plenty of discs from disc golf that we can bring along for ultimate frisbee (I like those discs better than regular ones because even if you can't throw a frisbee to save your life it helps compensate for your lack of skill-not saying I have a lack of skill, ok now I'm lying heehee ). We are the game masters so you guys better watch out (just kidding)!! I don't have volleyball though, sorry.

Thanks for answering my million questions, I appreciate all your help and we are looking forward to meeting you guys.

Sean, Bobbi,

Glad to see some action on this thread - my wife and I (and kids, too, of course) would love to do the first COS MINI gathering - we still looking at the 5th of June? Need to make sure no kid events pop up that would cramp our style!!

Seriously, we're really looking forward to getting together down here to talk MINIs with other owners. Oh, and a few munchies and a cold beer wouldn't hurt, either!

And who might I talk to about some 5280 cards? I see some MINIs out at SAFB that are just crying out for some cards. . .

Hey Bill!
So glad to see you are a waver even when your not in the mini - that's awesome. I think you've honked/waved me down before and I probably gave you a puzzled look because I was trying to figure out if I knew you or not, or if you were just road raging at my mad driving skills. There are so many minis in COS that I wave at and I never get a response, then I just feel like a big nerd, that's ok though. Glad to hear you and the fam will be at the picnic - at least there should be three of us there, yay!

I think you and my dad may be soul buddies. He works at Peterson getting ready to retire and he's really into the sports bikes too. He just got a brand new Aprillia and he's converting his old buell into a chopper. They just did a race down at PPIR last week fundraising for some children's charities. Maybe I'll have to drag him along to the picnic.

You're Silver/Black? I think I might have waved before.
I'm usually on a black Honda 919 or in a red Honda Pilot (and a yellow Honda 400EX quad, but you won't see that one on the streets - too often! ) So if I see you and honk/wave, it's not your driving, it's the MINI.

So I'm assuming your dad'll be down at PPIR this weekend for the AMA races? I'll keep an eye out for an Aprillia or a chopped Buell. What's his name in case I run into him - and where on Pete does he work, do you know? Is he AD Air Force or civilian? I know a few people down there. . .

Hey Sean, I live right near you!

Sean, I am sure I have seen you as we live in C. Spgs. Near Research and Rangewood. I am also a RN, but I work at an insurance company.

What color is your mini?

My MC is Red with black roof. Currently in the Shop but should be home on Wed.

By the way...My MC overheated in the very hot weather on Sat. and had to be towed to the dealership. Apparently the powerstearing fan seized up and it runs on the same curcuit as the regular fan and the fuse blew which resulted in overheating!
Wondered if anyone else has had the same problem?

Mindy
