AMVIV III - March 24, 25, 26 2006

For MINI5280 members and those going to AMVIV II with us on March 3, 4, 5, 6 2005, this thread will serve as the logistics thread. I will start the attendance sheet and post here this weekend. Those of you going, pls let me know your logistics information including:

Your names (self and passengers)
Cell # if you wish
Car color
When leaving and when returning
Hotel arrangements for Thursday thru Sunday (some are staying over)
Did you RSVP for C3 dinner on Friday? Most of us did

and anything else you want. This way we will all know each other before we get there.

I want to extend a special welcome to YlwJkt from Gardner, KS who is joining us as well, weather permitting.

Also welcome to new members Jayme and Kevin who are joining the group for their first BIG events.

Thanks, keep an eye out here.

Just got word from HUFNPUF

NAM member from KC that they too are coming thru Denver to AMVIV. I have asked them to join our group leaving Denver, wheels down, at 6 pm.

Rick has determined that a 'Very Good' location to meet and leave from is the NW corner of I-70 and Morrison Rd, just as you head up the hill. On the NW corner there is a parking lot, and just beyond that a gas station. Meet there by 5:45, wheels down by 6 pm

Thanks, we will have fun.

We DO have choices:

Google Maps shows the following:

GJ to LV - 506 miles, 8 hrs 39 mins. We gain an hour on the time zone change, but leaving at 8 am puts us there, at posted speeds, at about 3:30 local time.

Since there IS a ride that afternoon, there may be some pp who want to take it. It leaves at about 1:30 pm local time. If nobody wants to do this (Mt. Charleston) then there is no hurry. We could leave at 8 and have time to check in and get to dinner.

My original plan was to leave GJ at 6:30, hope for a 'tail wind' and arrive LV around 1:30 local time anyway. That way, those who want the drive can peel off, those who want a bed can check in (not really, check in is 3 pm).

There may be others who don't want to leave at 6:30 too....if we need to split up we can. My issue is that my body will not sleep past about 5 am...it just wakes me up. Lots to do at that time of day and I hate to miss anything.

Everyone, pls post here your thoughts and we can do logistics on Thursday night...

Thanks,

JPS

When I moved from Nebraska to Vegas, I drove my Talon down alone. I stayed in Denver (west side, but still in Denver) overnight. I left about 6:30am and arrived in Vegas about 3pm local time. I had my cruise set at posted speed + 5mph.
And yes, I did gain an hour due to timezone differences.

I can head up the group that wants to leave at 8am for ya J if you want to leave earlier and take that 1:30 ride in Nevada.

I'll be at the Fruita hotel at 8 if you'll pass it along Thurs eve

We might meet up with ya if we do "posted speed limits" (Cannonball run style )

Oh yeah, not too long after you enter Utah, there is a sign that says "No gas for 110 miles" (135?). Anyway, they aren't kidding. I was on fumes by the end of the stretch. My recommendation is to top up at that sign.

Have a good trip down, and I'll see you all on Thursday or Friday.

That's just West of Green River Utah. The next real gas is in Richfield Utah, which is actually more like 130 miles. The one at 110 isn't the greatest place.

On the Denver to Vegas stretch of my trip to L.A., my usual gas stops are:
  • Glenwood or Grand Junction
  • Green River
  • Richfield
  • St. George
  • Vegas

DiD,

Thanks for the info. Gas stops are good. Decent gas stations are even better...especially when there is a female bladder in the passenger seat .

and it's called a wide mouth plastic bottle.

Ready, Set, Motor

By decree, Rick Gonzales has said that we will meet on Thursday evening, 5:45 pm at the NW Corner of I-70 and Morrison Rd., on the West side of Denver, just at the beginning of the big hill. There are free lots there but meet at the gas station just a few yards west and up the hill from the intersection on the lateral road. Call 303-807-9483 if you have questions, get lost, or need directions. As Rick put it, "wheels down at 6:00 pm".

Logistics sheet attached. Pls check for accuracy, we can still make corrections.

Comfort Inn Fruita is the motel of choice on the Western Slope. There has been a suggestion that the group NOT leave on Friday AM at 6:00, rather wait a bit and leave closer to 8:00 am. The group needs to decide so we can call Siobhan and Kevin who are in GJ and just west, respectively. We need to let them know on Thursday eve so they can plan accordingly.

Questions? I will be online until mid-afternoon tomorrow. Or feel free to call # above. We have some goodies for each of you and a surprise, too.

We are all looking forward to the trip....

Johnathon,

I'm like you and usually up early in the mornings. I'm not sure that will be the case after driving up to Grand Junction though. I can be ready to leave whenever we decide. I just have to make some extra time to PUT MY FACE ON .

Also if you want to add my cell phone number to the logistics sheet it is. 720-495-7142. I'm bringing an extra walkie talkie to should anyone need one.

Okay everyone, I don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight, but I'm going to try. I just want to let everyone know that I put together a little web site to show off my MINI. Since I've only had it for "a whole month now" there are only three pictures on it, but somehow I think after this weekend there'll be a whole bunch more. Anyway the web site it http://members.aol.com/milehiminimaniac/. I also have an e-mail address account for the same site milehiminimaniac@aol.com.

I just tried the link that I put into my last post and for some reason, the NAM site it changing the http://members to http://www. www won't work it has to say members, so if you want to check out my site, you'll need to enter the address manually and NOT use the link. Sorry about that

Corporate Security Governance says

I cannot go to that site. When we get that mess on company machines, it always means "find a workaround" because "there might actually be something interesting there".

Truth is, we are firewalled from AOL and many other timewasters...

JPS

I can get there otherwise...
