R4tC "Run for the Corners" October 15, 16 2005

This from our friends at New Mexico Mini ( www.nmmini.org ) who have graciously organized a wonderful 2-day tour of Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, on September 25th and 26th:

September 24, 25, 26
Northern NM, Southern CO
Run for the Border Tour
A combined fun run with two Colorado clubs -
MINI5280 and MOTR
Meet up Friday night in northern NM,
Fun Runs on Saturday, Sunday into Colorado
Beautiful driving roads and lots of new friends!

The Colorado contingent will leave on Friday evening and go to Raton, to save some driving on Saturday. That way, it is a short hop to Taos on Saturday AM to begin the Tour.

Contact us at President@MINI5280.org or contact Steve Elkins from NM Minis at meseke@mindspring.com if you are interested in joining the Tour. Watch www.nmmini.org for more information.

Unfortunately I'll have to miss this one, it sounds great. The BMWCCA driver's school is at Pueblo on the 25th, maybe you can stop by lovely Pueblo while you're touring southern Colorado.

One of the routes I proposed to Steve

is on Sunday, thru Pueblo, and a stop at Pueblo Motorsports Park. I am going to try to get some of the NM folks to sign up for Phil Wicks Ultimate MINI / Mini Driving Academy there on October 18th....

More info, see thread in Rocky Mountain Forum and reply to Richard Marsden or Anthony Fig.

Thanks.

Leave Denver Friday 6 pm for the Run for the Border

with New Mexico Minis.

Meet at the rock Bottom Brewery, Park Meadows. This is the NW corner of County Line and I-25, sort of back in there a ways, in front of the SoundTrack.

Please confirm here that you will join us and PM me your phone # so we can be in touch...I will send you mine.

We will meet about 6 and leave as soon as all arrive...and we pick up Brad in Colo Springs on the way to Raton that night.

Thanks, this will be fun.

The RMCBMWCCA driving school instructors are dining out that night in Pueblo, we still haven't picked a place but it sounds like were leaning towards Mexican or Italian. Let me know if you want a mid-point stop for dinner. My remembrances of Raton don't include any fine dining experiences. It would be fun to have you join us for a quick dinner

Confirmed.

We leave Denver at 6, pick up Brad in CSCO at 7:15 or so, then to Pueblo. Should be around 8 - 8:15 and tho I can't speak for the others, I will suggest it to all and I am sure some of us will stop.

I am at 303-807-9483 if you want to call sometime when you know where you will be...

Thanks for the offer...

We ran for the Border

Thanks to all for organizing this fun and scenic event! We both had lots of fun on our first two-day ride. Take a look at a few of our photos from the trip: http://coloradorick.smugmug.com/cars

We're looking forward to the next Border run!

It is an easy drive from Denver to Raton

The motels are not, um, Hyatt's but they are comfy and inexpensive. The lady there took care of us last year, stayed up to wait. The rooms are huge. We can call ahead and let her know we arrive as a group, as before.

The key logistic is to leave about 6:30 am Sat heading to Taos, allowing time for gas, bathroom, and bfst there before the Taos Gorge Bridge at 9 am...

R&W in

Rick & Wendy are in. We're taking Friday off work, so we'll have all day to get to Taos for the overnight there. Intend to leave mid-morning-ish. Thinking (but open for other routes) of route from Denver to Colo Spgs, Walsenburg, La Veta Pass, San Luis, Questa (NM) and Taos (Best Western Kachina Lodge). Saturday night in Cortez at Best Western Tourquoise Inn.

I'm in for leaving Friday early-ish

I have never explored Taos, so I should be leaving early... unless the Schuster's plan on leaving late morning?

Please give them my info, Jonathan

Gunnison is only about

200 mi from Denver, nice road on 285 back.

Telluride is about 350, but that is earlier in the day.

I would guess 5-6 hrs or so once we head back. We intend to do that by NOON..
