Children's Hospital Charity Run

Again this year MINI5280 will collect toys and supplies for Children's Hospital and then personally deliver the items. This is a fun, heart-warming event that has become a club tradition.
This year we will have a north and a south group converging on the hospital at 12:00 PM, Sunday December 21st.

North Group - 11 am: Children's Hospital Broomfield,
469 W 168th St., Broomfield, 80023 (just WEST of I-25 at 168th St. Exit)
Driving map: North Route
Take I-25 to I-270 the I-70 East to I-225 South to Colfax, then
WEST to Children's

South Group - 11 am: Children's Hospital Lone Tree,
9218 Kimmer Drive, Lone Tree (S of 470 and Park Meadows, just off
Yosemite)
Driving Map: South Route
Take I-25 to I-225 to Colfax, then WEST to Children's

At each meeting point be there by 11:00 AM and depart at 11:30
Look for an email from me with details for items

Sign-up on the club calendar here: Children

For "northern MINIs", the Steve & Barry's University Sportswear" clothing store in Longmont at the Twin Peaks mall is closing, with an indefinite closing date. They have LOTS of "adolescent clothing" (see the list) and right now their prices on everything are $3.98 or less or 2 for $7.

There are 2 other locations closing: Pueblo and Littleton and 2 others remaining open: Co Spgs & Westminster. I think the stores remaining open are having a $4.98 or less sale right now.

Just an idea...you can get a lot for a little.

I'll see if my company wants to get involved. They have a strong dedication to charity interests of employees.

Are the gifts/supplies to be wrapped or not?

Great tip Teena. Also, you can organize an office collection box, a relative drive or neighborhood collection to gather items for the hospital.
Just be sure to read the email I just sent. It has attached a list of acceptable items and suggestions as provided by Children's Hospital.

I believe in years past they preferred unwrapped items.

What to donate

The types of items desired are "new toys, books, stuffed animals, craft materials, and other items pertaining to various age groups." See The Children's Hosptial wish list (PDF) below. One ideas is to collect monetary donations and purchase larger items from the list. Note that all donated items must be new, unwrapped, and in the original packaging.

For more information, see The Children's Hospital (Denver) website, under "Donate Items/Gifts In-Kind" (http://www.thechildrenshospital.org/).

Only 9 people have signed-up so far. I can see we have to kick this up a notch.
How about a contest?
MINI5280 will raffle off a set of Four (4) 15x6 4-100 Steel Wheels (black) and a $300 gift certificate from DiscountTires perfect for putting snow tires on your MINI.
We will sell tickets at our next meeting (12/9) and possibly get a PayPal sales point. Tickets will be $5 each with no limit. Drawing will be held before we go into the hospital on 12/21 and all proceeds will be given to Children's Hospital.
Think about it; a chance to win a set of snow tires (you know you'll need them) and the proceed benefit Children's Hospital.
Now who else is going to sign-up on the calendar for this event?

Actually, they're 15 inch, to be exact: 15x6, 4-100/4.50. They were used for a couple of seasons, then donated by Bridget, an early member of MINI5280. They're in good shape. Photos soon.

Raffle Tickets via PayPal

You can now buy your raffle tickets via PayPal ($5 per chance) at the MINI5280 website: www.MINI5280.org (Charity page). Note that online tickets will only be sold until the night before the raffle (10:00 PM 12/20/08) to allow time to deposit physical tickets in the raffle bin for PayPal chances purchased.

OK, in name only put me down for attending the North gathering, unfortunately we will be driving back from Nebraska on Sunday the 21st.

Kim, Teena can I drop some packages with one of you so you can deliver for me as a proxy?

Don

Sure! I am sure there will be plenty of room in my mini RAV. RUDEBOX isn't allowed to play in the snow...if there's snow.

Where are all the other northern MINIs at?

I don't have a MINI to drive (unless I happen to get my job back)... I'll be glad to go along with someone if anyone has room.

If it's snowing, we won't be driving our MINI...but we'll still be there!

Now at 13 - a most unlucky number so we need at least 7 more.
Don't forget the raffle tickets too.
