CSP Track Autocross Saturday 10-4-08
Colorado Corvette Clubs are having an AutoCross tomorrow at the Colorado State Patrol Track in Golden. I was personally invited sometime back to race w/ them by a good friend.
Today I find out they want as many cars to come as possible to offset cost to rent the track. Anyone can enter but be there by 8:00A to register. There is a race in the morning $35.00 & an afternoon race also $35.00. Choose 1 or both.
Spectators welcome. Drivers get lunch provided, others may purchase lunches.
Non Corvettes, all "Steel Body" cars they refer to them as, race in the M (metal) class. All Novices are all in the Novice class. The Vettes have a half dozen classes to be divided into....

Don:
This was my 1st ever track experience. I drove only the morning session, 3 laps. In the afternoon I rode w/ my friend in his C5 Vette for 2 laps & a Lady in her new C6 1 lap. The oldest Vette was a '72 w/ 454.
My best of 3 track times (93.342seconds) was the top time of the slower half of all the morning runs. The faster half included 600 HP - Vette Rocky Mtn Region SCCA points champion & several C-Z06 500 HP Vettes.
I raced "M" class for metal cars, all novices & all Women Vette Drivers went at the same session. There were only 3 non Vettes in the morning, an STI-WRX, me & a Vintage Monza.
My Mini pulled 80mph in the longest straight away, my friends 400 HP Vette did 85, the 600 HP cars were hitting 105. Everyone said they could hear my SuperCharger's "Whine" over the entire 1.5 mile course!
Having had this experience, if I was ever to do it again, I think I could shave off 3 seconds. Possibly 5 seconds for sure if I had JCW front brakes!
It was fun.... I think I prefer spirited driving on the Dragon w/ Mini friends in a group, though.
Lots of people asked me how I did. When I told them 93.xxx, they all said "many of the Vettes don't see that kinda of times...."

Chuck:
I never took pictures, & didn't see anyone else take pictures either.
The Corvette Club will post the Track Day info on their club site & let me know.
There was a Lady there watching her Husband compete that has an M3 BMW. It was in the shop for body work so she was not racing. She asked to ride w/ me during the parade lap before races started so we could learn the track. She said that when BMW Club sponsors a race there are a number of Mini's that turn out.
Next weekend for the Vettes is a parking lot Autocross at a High School in Fruita near Grand Junction.

Sounds fun. I have to ask was the event a Time Trials format on full track or did they have the track set with cones/pylons?
We will have to do this sometime with a group. Chuck I will ask Umberto or Mike P. for more info on the 18th event.
Of course, I will be working a corner at PPIR that weekend, go figure.

It was supposed to be a low speed (80mph max) Autocross w/ cones. The max speed was ingnored, however.
There were 3 cars on the track at a time but spaced by some 30 seconds or more.
They had a rolling start out of the parking area.
