I understand with 380cc injectors I don't have to re map the ECU it would adjust itself to the new injectors.

Although I plan on sending my ECU to WMW for a tune once he would answer my phone call. It seems he doesn't want to do business with international customers.

I don't think this is true. The car will run with 380cc injectors, but it will run badly. Potentially even blow out your cat, if ran for too long. If you get injectors, you must get a tune. If you are already shelling out the dough for a tune, you might as well get bigger injectors, especially since they'll be working less hard to provide the requested flow (last longer), and that they'll be able to handle future mods, such as a cam, or ported manifold.

The ECU maps the injectors by requesting a percentage of the max injector flow depending on RPM. It does not know the nominal rate of the injectors, only how much power is needed to each injector for each additional RPM. Therefore, it will still think you have 330's in there, and when it would be requesting max flow from a 330, it'll be requesting max flow from your 380s. Which means rich AFRs.

Not qualified to talk about how exactly it all works, but I do know from my basic understanding of it, that if the maximum flow rate suddenly changes by 50cc, then the car will be providing around 14% too much fuel, especially at WOT, when it's asking for max injector flow.

Thanks,
But was looking for a set a little cheaper. Don’t mind if they’re used.

Someone found some Volvo injectors that fit with some readily available adapters:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rce-found.html

The price has gone up but they are still only $50 each.

Edit: I did a search for the part number listed on the FCP site (Bosch 30757534) and found them for $17.xx on AutohausAZ.com

The following link is the most information you'll find on R53 compatible injectors: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3855326

What's provided above is not the actual Bosch part#; it is the Volvo part #. What you want is Bosch #0280158096 and the appropriate adapters. Things get cramped when using the harness adapters, but these injectors perform as well, if not better, than JCW units.

The other bit that you need to know is this: Without a tune, the car will scale the injectors fine for Closed Loop driving only. However, the car will not scale the injectors during Open Loop driving i.e. a cold-start, nor will it scale them when driving aggressively (WOT for example). This means you're running rich in those situations, and you leave power on the table while getting worse MPG's.

I can tell you firsthand what Air-to-Fuel Ratio's you'll see with 380's, tuned vs. untuned, with typical intake, 15% pulley, exhaust modifications. The injectors aren't worth it unless you intend to get them tuned now or in the future.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding injector compatibility.

My mods are as follows:

15% pulley
2% ATI Damper pulley
GRS intercooler
Alta exhaust and Header (gutted)
1320 optimized bypass valve

Would I benefit from JCW 380cc injectors? As far as future mods I think that's it.
Don't have access to a remote tune

Thanks
Ron

No, you won't 'benefit' from just adding injectors without a tune. As I said above, your ECU can only scale them properly during Closed Loop driving (cruising). During cold starts and WOT (Open Loop), the car will run too rich. You need a tune to scale the injectors for all running conditions.

People add injectors untuned because they think it gives them safety by enriching the fuel mixture. That's partially true. The flip side of that is this: running too rich causes problems:

1) Reduced gas mileage.
2) Reduced power.
3) Potential for catalytic converter damage
4) Cylinder washing (when the excess fuel dilutes the oil that lubricates the cylinder walls).
5) Plug fouling. Most people run 1 step colder plugs on modded MINIs. The additional fuel during cold start combined with the colder plug makes it easier to foul plugs or allow carbon build-up.

The bottom line is this: You should know your Air:Fuel ratio before changing anything. I've seen safe and powerful Air:Fuel ratios with stock injectors and mods like yours (11.5:1). The ONLY issue with stock injectors on a car modded like yours is increased Injector Duty Cycle (how long the injector coil is being continuously held open to deliver the needed fuel). When your IDC becomes close to 100% (injectors are held open instead of pulsing), you run the risk of overheating/damaging the injector. Keep in mind though, this should only be a concern for people who run at WOT very often.
