karvin, unfortunately, this part of the board is not too busy. Check out www.nemini.org for more details on North Jersey. There is a section on detailing with discussion about where to go for a wash.

You could also check out www.newyorkmini.org.

Good luck!

There is a good "hand wash" place in Jersey City, on Grand Street right near the new Medical Center...

wash'em up, ride'em out!

If the weather's good and the temp is in the 50's and I have the time, I'll do it by hand. It takes several hours to do a decent job. That includes waxing.

I've found a touchless car wash in Bloomingdale on Hamburg Tpke. It's a great excuse to motor!

The only caveat I see with the "hand-wash" places is the towels they're using. They're probably not changing them out for every car. And the towels are probably not microfiber anyway.

See the detailing forum for lots of howto and tool info.

That car wash in Bloomingdale (right on Hamburg tpke) uses the Laser system. I was there today and read the label on the equipment.

Carwash Bloomingdale

I would take 287N to the Hamburg Tpk exit. Head towards Butler. Which side is it on? Is it the only carwash?

Yep. head towards the quarry and follow hamburg tpke into Bloomingdale. Go past the only light in Bloomingdale. it will be on your left after a small park. it's a coin-op with stalls and two laserwash lanes. it's the only carwash in bloomingdale. there is a full service one in Butler on rt 23 south.

Bit of a haul from stanhope, though. THere's a Mobil on rt 10 east in denville. it looks like it has a touchless car wash of some sort. I have yet to check it out.

motor on!

I get up that way sometimes. Good to know it's there, especially in winter. I'll also check out the Rt 10east Mobile place and let you know.

287 is flat-out hammer-down country from 80 to Mawah, as long as you remember where the poh-leece like to hang out.

I got my first ticket last week,(not on 287) 6 days -- 500miles after taking delivery. 50 in a 25 zone. I thought it was kind of rural, but the officer did not. Caught a break though. He asked me why I was speeding and I told him because it's a new car and I'm not used to it. (true) Asked what I drove before, and I told him an suv (also true) so he cut me a break and wrote me up for no seat belt (not true) I was wearing my seat belt but so what, I was so-o-o-o-o greatful! No points or insurance surcharge. I think he wanted to hang around and bs about the MINI but he got an accident call and had to take off. I've slowed down a bit...so far.

Still looking for installer...

I agree with previous post...let's keep this Jersey thing going.

Hugh

Sap

I just got a dose of that seasonal nemisis of tree-turd that gunks up our shiny finishes. This past weekend I finally Zaino'd my month-old blk/blk MCS and it turned out great. But because I had to leave it out overnight I got a gift of tree sap.

So I drove up to the touchless spray car wash in Bloomingdale mentioned above, and in 5 minutes, my finish was once again smooth as a baby's bottom, with no water marks. They advertise a streak free finish--I suspect the final rinse contains an ioniser to soften the hard water we have here in many parts of Northern NJ.

The place has 3 options: a $5 straight wash and rinse, and two polish and wax application deals for $6 or $7. I opted out of those because of my new Zaino finish. BTW, they say you can pay there with your credit card, but the machine wouldn't read mine, and the change maker would only break a $10, not a $20, so I had to go scrounge change!!!

On my way there, I looked for the above mentioned "no-contact" car wash on Rt 10 in Denville, but couldn't site it. Anyone know if it's there for sure?

Hand car washes Northern NJ

I cant believe everyone doesn't know about the best hand wash in all of NJ...& NY. Go to Progressive Car Car Center in Paterson NJ on Union Blvd.
It is so popular that the traffic blocks the road. The average wait is about 20 cars on a nice day. After a drive through where machines & manual labor clean your car, there are about 12 guys who dry every crevice of your car & even clean the insides of your windows.
Another place would be a small gas station ( I think its a Mobile)on Rt 23 South in Wayne NJ. These guys just have a garage where only 2 guys wash your car. It is all done by hand & they do a fantastic job. Too bad they are not more busy, but they are relatively new.

Another NJ driver here -- Scotch Plains (Union County). Hey minigizmo, if you get more details on that station/car wash in Wayne on Rt. 23, pass it along. I work in Wayne, so I'd like to give it a try. I haven't found anything decent near home.

have you tried the "hand wash" place (greco's?) on Westfield Ave across from Scotch Hills? I haven't yet, but been thinking about it.

Funny you should mention it. My son goes there (Miata Mazdaspeed) and swears by it, so I've been meaning to give it a try. We've had our MCS since August, so I've washed it myself, but it's getting a bit cold for that. My wife took it through the Towne Car Wash in Westfield on South Ave. The guy wanted to tape the driving lights so they woudn't move, which she agreed to, but there was residue left on the bonnet stripes, which took some work to remove.

I live in WAY north Jersey (Frankfort, Sussex Co.). I've found that the old fashioned hand wash is the way to go. Just make sure that your brushes and sponges are clean. Anyone else live up by me?

I avoid the "towne car wash" - their machines stripped some plastic trim off my volvo 850 once, then they gave my wife a hard time about it. Eventually fixed it, but why the hassle? Also a bit on the expensive side. I plan on trying the Greco place next wash.

Zanes Carwash in Hackettestown does a really nice job on my MINI for an automatic car wash. For quick spray downs I go to Scrub-A-Dub also in Hackettstown, and They use warm water and have this spotless dry spray which works great.

If you are in Hoboken you can go to a few in JC. There is a Hand Car wash on Newark Avenue and Seventh Street, also the one mentioned above by Medical Center, If you stay on Grand there is another about 1 mile away. But the one I like the most is the one on Garfield because it is touchless and the guys are good. The owner takes it seriously and if you find the job wasn't done right he will have them do it again. If you don't want to drive through JC, It is off of exit 14b on the Turnpike:

make a right after the toll, stay on your right, make a right at the light and then look to the gas station on the right at the next light (I can't remember the name of the gas station though)
