Thank you for your very helpful answer. I believe this is the NJ regional forum not the NH. I also assume there is a private message feature as well.

If forum rules frown upon this thread then I apologize and the moderator can take action.

Jersey doesn't care about tints and depends how low you are. A few of my friends with STI's are lowered and they've all passed. I think the noise will be your issue, my good friend couldnt pass with the noise, they said they didnt care about being catless. As for finding a place, I'm not too sure. I asked this question 3 years ago and the moderator removed my thread. You can always find a place in PA to buy a sticker, you just gotta ask some shops around here directly and they'll tell you.

Thank you for your helpful response. I'm not too concerned about noise. The CNT exhaust is pretty quiet. Mostly concerned about being catless as I tend to hit the track from time to time.

New Jersey inspection is pretty much a joke these days.

back before the inspection changes I used to do inspections for car buddies. for ob2 cars its almost impossible to pass without cats and what not. obd1 is easy, you just plug the sniffer into the exhaust of another vehicle, thats passable. I always tell anyone who is going catless to make sure they weld in some quick connects so they can put the cats back in for inspections.

although my buddy got his r34 skyline inspected. It might or might not have been a sticker for an 89 jeep cherokee....

There's an inspection station in Wayne which is usually less crowded than Paramus. I just got my 06 MCS from down south this past year and the only thing I was concerned about was tint on the front door windows but they didn't check. Drove through with the windows down just in case.

They have webcams at most of the inspection stations now so you can get an idea of the line before you go: http://njcam.appsolgrp.com/waitqueue/jsp/home.jsp

Nice, I'm wondering if they care whether or not you have a front plate. I currently don't have one, but I also dont need an inspection until next yr. If anyone knows, please chime in.

I don't know if they specifically check at inspection but you are supposed to have a front plate in NJ and I have heard of people getting ticketed for not having one. I got a Platypus plate holder since my car didn't come with one. It just barely fits on my car without a plate frame.

yeah that's true, but I've only received one ticket in 3 yrs. I guess it depends where you're driving or who the cop is, my friend is a local cop and he said most of them don't care because it's not a threat. They mainly care about seeing inside the vehicle, if the windows are tinted.

In NJ you do need a front plate, get the no holes plate holder. I am sure someone on here knows where to get them.

Isn't NJ going to the OBD scan vs. tailpipe sniffer? Maybe they already have. NJ troopers are sticklers for the front plate. The Platypus is the best solution IMO.

Thanks, yeah I already have holes in the front because the dealer originally installed the plate, but I switched it for a Euro plate, and yeah the only ticket I've had was from a trooper on the turnpike. He didn't care about my tinted windows, tailights and headlights, he just said I had to have a front plate on.

True, but if they have reason to suspect you may be catless (you smell bad) or on modified suspension (e.g., airbags or such), they can inspect and fail you.

I haven't run a front plate for a while now. Gotta put it back on for inspections though. Most cops have better fish to fry than tints and no front plate.

I beg to differ, Jersey Cops have nothing better to do than look for tints, taillights, no front plates, especialliy Troopers.

a friend of mine in jersey had his inspection pulled when he ran into a mobile inspection unit doing spot checks. they told him that he failed inspection because his shift **** did not have a H pattern on it. jersey seems to really have nothing else to do.

That's ridiculous, but I'm assuming that happened before 2010? NJ changed the inspection law in July of 2010 for emissions only.

Either way, yes Jersey is hurting in so many ways. All of these redlight and right-turn cams are insane. I've gotten 4 right-turn camera tickets in 1 month.

Eeek. I don't get it though, I rolled around all of north Jersey for two years in a 2006 Suburu STI with tints and no plate, never bothered once.

Good to know and keep an eye out for though.

Yea it was probably 2008ish. Good to know they changed it, I'm contemplating moving to Jersey this summer and don't want to deal with this stuff lol

+1. Part of my job involves dispatching several local police depts., and they pull people over all the time for these things, especially tint & tags.

We have the dumbest laws. If you can afford the tickets, just do it.

Back to inspection, my friend failed last week for his '93 MX6. Took it to a private shop and passed. Just another option to keep in mind, although this obviously won't work for everyone.
