PINE ISLAND - April 9th
PINE ISLAND - April 9th
The British Car Club of Midlands Centre, and the the porsche car club are having their annual event at Pine Island @ Lake Murray. There where 2 minis there last year. Hopefully there will be more this year.
Would be nice to get a drive going, and there are grilles there etc. etc.
Date: April 9th
Enjoy!

This sounds like it could be fun:smile: and I'm always up for a drive somewhere I've never been. Where exactly is Pine Island? I might be willing to drive down for this. I've heard though that some British Car enthusiasts, particularly original MINI owners, don't consider the new MINI a "real" British car. Any chance we MINIacs would be less than welcome there?

Pine Island is on the Lake up in Ballentine. I think you take exit 102 to get there... it's right past Irmo if you're headed towards Greenville on 26.
Wish I could bring mine down for the event but maybe I can catch up with you guys later this summer.

Directions to the Pine Island Club:
To reach Pine Island Club from Columbia, follow I-26 to Exit 102A (Lake Murray Blvd & Irmo – West) and turn right onto SC #60. Proceed through the town of Irmo, remain on SC #60 to the Lake Murray Dam (Do not cross dam). Turn sharply right onto SC #6. Proceed approximately 0.8 of a mile, turn left onto River Road at the Convenience Store. Continue on this road until you approach a "Dead End" sign at the entrance to Pine Island Club. Turn left, enter gates, and cross causeway onto Pine Island.
To reach Pine Island from Newberry area, bear right off I-26 at the "176, Ballentine/Irmo" exit. Proceed for 0.5 of a mile on "176 East" to Bickley Road. Turn right on Bickley Road and continue for 1.1 miles. Cross the railroad tracks and turn left at the stop sign to "Highway 76". Go for 0.1 of a mile and turn right at the Convenience Store onto "SC #6" and proceed for 3.8 miles. Turn right onto River Road at the Convenience Store. Continue on this road until you approach a "Dead End" sign at the entrance to Pine Island Club. Turn left, enter gates, and cross causeway onto Pine Island

Sounds like a good time. I should be able to get to the meet. This will not be to long a drive from Sumter.

SoCar S,
Thanks for the directions. I'm definitely interested in coming down but am not sure yet. I'd like to see if there is more interest from some other club members up here in NC. I may PM a few to see if they want to drive down. Sounds like a fun day.

So, are there any nice places to stay in that immediate area? I know I could find something in Columbia but I mean near Pine Island. If I come down, I may choose to stay over on Saturday night.
BTW Kimberly, hope you decide to come on down but with a 4 y.o. and 2 teenagers, that would take courage
. I wonder if some of the other Asheville area members might be interested? Have you tried contacting Lee J., Kevin R. or Chris B.?

Annual Pine Island Car Show
Sponsored by Porsche Club of America
I will have to find out about food and stuff.
The British Car Club will have food but it is an extra $5 bucks.
I will have to find out about the grill food situation.
Will be back shortly.

Just wanted to update everyone about this event. Pine Island is on Lake Murry just outside Columbia and it is a beautiful place. Met lots of really nice folks in the SC British and Porsche clubs and there were lots of great cars! It was an actual car show (so good thing I at least washed Scooter before we left) but you had the option of whether to enter your car or not. There were 3 MINIs there, which I'm told is 1 more than last year. I understand this is an annual event so I would suggest keeping it in mind for next year and maybe a few more of us can caravan down. I would definitely consider doing it again. It was a lot of fun in a beautiful setting.
