Speaking for myself, there are two reasons to put a car on a dyno: tuning, showing off some freakishly high horsepower numbers to impress people.

The former is usually done in a shop and sometimes in a clandestine operation, so nobody knows what you have under the hood/bonnet.

You won't see the latter from the majority of the MINI crowd, b/c of our HP ratings--that's why it was so popular with my Mustang / Cobra club buddies, the LT/LS1+ crowd and the like. Small, four cylinder guys just don't do dynos--they do twisties!

That's why you do see so many drives and auto-x events with MINIs and not so much with Z28s and Vipers.

However, I do like to go to dyno days, just to watch. Bump for watchers!

That's funny. I was at Bloom over here near my house the other day, parked outside waiting on April who was picking up a few things when I noticed an NSX drive by. The guy got out, stopped, staring at my car, then came over. He said he loved my MINI, and told me I should check out this club (carolina euros.) I had never heard of it. The guy gave me his card if I wanted more info.
