High Rock International Raceway

looks like the new racetrack has gotten approval.

The new roadcourse got approval yesterday and they say..... it will be open February 08. Lots of articles out there about it but here's what was sent to me today.

LETS GO RACING!
Town of Spencer Approves Conditional Use Permit
CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT APPROVED
August 9, 2007 - Spencer, NC - Tonight with a 5 member
vote, the Town of Spencer Zoning Board Authority
approved the High Rock Raceway conditional use permit.
This clears the way for High Rock Raceway to start
immediate construction of the race facility and
proceed towards the Feb 2008 opening of the first
dedicated road course in the State of North Carolina.
A complete press release will be issued by High Rock
Raceway, so make sure you check back to read about
what is next for High Rock Raceway.
We would also like to express our sincere and deepest
appreciation to all of our thousands of supporters and
we also like to thank all our corporate partners, for
which this would not be all possible.
THANK YOU! ---- Now, let's go racing!

Here's a link that gives some info. the construction has been delayed due to miles of red tape from the locals. Looks like it's a go now.

Hope to see everyone there in a year or so.

Woo Hoo! Guess it was my sig on the petition that pushed it over the edge. Y'all can thank me later.

I have GOT to get me a coupe, now... Seems like somebody (Dan Z?) could make some money renting track-ready MINIs...

I think the small road courses are really set up to be driven, not watched. Road Atlanta and VIR have the big event/spectator/TV market covered, I'd put this more like CMP. Kind of a neighborhood version that's more accessible for folks. Like the little track in Concord on 601 v. Lowe's Motor Speedway...

here is a copy of the e-mail i got today from them. prices are a bit unrealistic. consider this. VIR cost <$3000 a year and no initiation fee.

HIGH ROCK RACE CLUB[/SIZE]
An initial release of fifty individual memberships is being offered at $25,000.00 each. Members will have the exclusive use of the entire 2.15 mile road course on sixty pre-scheduled dates throughout the year. This membership is perpetual, meaning that it does not expire. The membership can be sold at market value, gifted to another individual or passed on to heirs. The only additional obligation of the membership is annual dues, payable each January, of $3,000.00 (subject to reasonable annual increases).

High Rock Raceway received a Conditional Use Permit to operate a Country Club Racetrack from the Zoning Board of Adjustment of the Town of Spencer, North Carolina, on August 9th, 2007. Site construction is commencing immediately and track construction completion is expected to be in March of 2008. Designed by famed road course racer, Elliott Forbes-Robinson, High Rock will be the only dedicated road course in North Carolina. The fourteen-turn track will be forty feet wide, 2.15 miles in length with ten successive rolling changes in elevation of from thirty to sixty feet. The front straight will be 2,400 feet in length and the back straight will be 1,600 feet in length. The ten acre paddock will be paved and fully-powered.
A LIMITED NUMBER OF CLUB MEMBERSHIPS WILL BE OFFERED.

This Is a Racer's Track. It Will Be Fast.
High Rock Raceway is located just off of I-85 approximately forty minutes North of Charlotte and forty minutes South of Greensboro.

As track construction is completed, High Rock will commence construction of a four-story Members’ Center near the heart of the paddock. Within the Members’ Center will be the 6,000 square foot Members’ Club, offering a relaxed atmosphere, quality food and beverages, a comfortably-sized wrap-around outdoor deck and incredible site lines across the entire track. Secure climate-controlled Members-only garages will be available for purchase or rental at the track.

I passed this along to a friend of mine in Stateville, NC. He runs a Corvette in NASA's T1 right now, he of course knew all about it already!

They're also building one of these "Country Club Racetracks" here in KC, but they didn't have any problem with noise abatememnt or neighbors because they're building it at the airport!

Founding Memberships for that one go for $100K!
Supposed to open about this time next year, I can't wait for our KCMINIacs to rent the track for a weekend!
