Navigation & Audio 2005 H/K radio with Blitzsafe XM adapter
2005 H/K radio with Blitzsafe XM adapter
All,
I have the H/K system in my '05 MCS... Just the CD Player, no changer. Is is possible to connect my XM Roady XT to a Blitzsafe adapter and then directly connect it to the H/K "box" in the boot on the right side? And this will allow me to tune my XM radio via the H/K tuner?? Sounds great to me if it can be done.
I looked at the black box and the wiring that's there but I didn't see any area where I could plug and play the Blitzsafe unit. Seems pretty cramped in there. Anyone have any experience in this department?
Thanks!
Dave

It might looked cramped but it fits in easily. Many ppl have done this.
Doubtful. The blitzsafe connects to the cd changer wiring in the boot. Then you need the xmdirect tuner w/antenna that plugs into the blitzsafe. Its the adapter that allows for tuning through the radio. Xmdirect is about $25. Cheap.

Is the wiring in the boot easy to access? It looked to me like it was very tightly tucked away.
Thanks, chows4us, so that would mean ditching the Roady XT and going with the xmdirectuner. Hey, if that allows tuning of XM through my H/K receiver, then I'm all over it! :-)

Terk Xmdirect xmd1000
When facing the boot, take of the right access panel. The cd changer wiring is in there. Yup, it all fits fine ... many ppl have done it.
Over on XM411.com, they keep emphasizing that the radio in the car must be a "Satellite Ready" tuner. My H/K is NOT sat ready... will the Blitzsafe and xmdirectuner allow my H/K non-sat ready tuner to view and change the XM channels?
Seems to me if the tuner is "Sat Ready," then you wouldn't need the Blitzsafe adapter and directuner unit, right???
Sorry for all the Q's... I just want to get it straight. Thanks again for the replies.

Don't worry about satellite ready. Your not using that. Rather, your using the CD changer, which all MINIs are prewired with, to fool the radio into thinking XM is a CD changer. You can change the stations but you can't see all four lines scrolled like on a Roady. Even if you have the CD Changer, Blitzsafe has a unit the passes through the CD changer wiring.
See https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ight=blitzsafe
He had a HK radio Plenty of pictures or do a search on Blitzsafe on NAM. You will have to run the antenna under the headliner to the roof. you get something like this:
I did not run the antenna myself but had an audio shop do it to ensure it was done right.
As to satellite ready ... I had my Toyota's radio taken out and replace with a pioneer "satellite" ready HU. I still had to add a Pioneer Adapter (like blitzsafe) and xmdirect. In another car that was not "satellite radio", they did the same thing as the MINI ... added an adapter to the CD Changer wiring ... then xmdirect. This radio DOES have an aux plug for say IPOD that is easily available. So ... when I turn to CD, first the CD plays, hit the button again and AUX comes up, hit it again and XM radio come on (HU thinks its the CD Changer). They method sort of sucks because I can't do random access to the stations (then again, you can't with the MINI version either ... however ... you can store your stations in the preset buttons)
