a lot of pics from MINI2 R56 Preview

http://www.mini2.com/article383-mini...-overview.html

the car is 3inch longer and it give the rear seat a bit more leg room. At the same time, I still think the way that they did the start/stop is a stupid idea. I really like the interial but is very weird that the car is longer now. I don't know why they call this a redesign because is really a facelift.

It is definitely a re-design. . . it just looks like a face lift.

I for one think it looks pretty good, but I'll be keeping my 2003 for quite some time. . . .

Nice pics. The computer generated x-ray view suggests a vent for cooling the brakes? Or am I just seeing what I want to see?

It's just not doing it for me and why have a bonnet scoop on the MCS, if it's non-functioning?

...very disappointed here, but it may grow on me if the performance numbers and reliability look good.

no hood scoop normally means cooling issues for a a TMIC/turbo car (ala MazdaSpeed6). Any idea where the intercooler is?

I like some of the improvements, performance wise anyway ... but looks wise there are some really clunky and tacky changes.

The wider plastic trim around the wheel arches looks very bad ... the speedo with the integrated radio ... say buh bye to radio upgrades ... and the very toy-like center console ... what were they thinking with this one ???

It's an interesting evolution to say the least, but the car lost some character.

Looks like they really cut-back on the rear suspension. The current setup is a complex multi-link setup... This new one looks like they cut out some of the important handling pieces..

I didn't realize that the scoop was just for show. That is kinda lame! I guess we will have to hope that the performance makes up for it.

It is still a multi-link, just like we have now. They even improved it by making the rear control arms aluminum and saving 20 lbs from them.

Thanks Red Fury!

I wonder how the people named Ralf feel about this slang term!

Did you look at the pics or just post the link?
The only thing I see on the '07 that MIGHT be the
same as the current model are the outside door handles,
other than that it's a whole different car.

What is interesting is that they painted one Electric Blue. EDIT: actually Laser Blue
but looks a lot like Electric Blue.
Where the heck do you get Electric Blue tape?

EDIT: I kinda like it, can't wait to see one in person.

Not me

At first my major concern was that new Motor...do not like 1st year of anything...now that I see what they did...especially with the interior trim...I will be keeping my 04 MSC for a very long time!

When it ain't broken...why fix it?

From the MINI Paint Shop. They Painted the tape to match the body color on the test mules.

I really don't like the back end, looks odd, but overall the rest of the car looks pretty good.

looks to me like a perfectly reasonable redesign, very much in the spirit of the model it replaces. i'm not gonna run out and trade my (awesome!) new '06 for it, but there's no call for gloom and doom. too many nattering nabobs of negativity around here...

While I'm not pleased with the hood scoop not being functional, it really looks like it will be an easy mod in the end to make it functional, as there seems to be ample clearance over the engine to the intake in the rear.

The key thing is gimicky... I'd prefer a fob like the Avalon or Lexus where it can just hang out in my pocket and the car will start with a push of a button... I mean really.. whats the difference if I put a bit of plastic in a hole or a key?

The "overboost" idea is wicked to say the least... it really is a shame though that the weight is up 22 lbs. vs. the 180 lb. reduction that motoringfile reported a few days back. A 2400 lb. Mini would really make things interesting.

Colors... I love the Laser Blue! Yellow is what it always should have been really. The sparkling silver... well, cough, umm... what can I say, I'm not a fan.

I like the new rear end quite a bit...and making a new exhaust should be cheaper and easier for this new model since it's such a straight shot down the middle.

It will be pretty fun to see what crazy mods people come up with down the pipe for this thing... especially on the JCW side. I'm just looking forward to the online configurator and pricing at this stage...

And many of the nattering nabobs would have had exactly the same negative response, no matter what the changes were.

Quote from MINI2, "There's also weirdness around the c-pillar. The wrap around glass is no more, but the panel you can see will also be changed to a different, shiny ABS plastic construction (similar to that on the exterior a-panels). The bulge is apparently there purely for aerodynamic purposes and has a dramatic effect on airflow."

I'll give you guys/gals one guess as to who already has something like this on his MINI.
Here's a hint: his screen name starts with "M" and ends with"TOY".
