Here is my minimalism solution. :p

This is Radio Shack car holder socket.

Bastards don't sell it anymore, they now only have the thicker version.

I screwed it to a 1 dollar suction cup. And sealed it with a bit of glue.

I put it on the speedometer.

This is what it looks with a leather case.

..with the leather latch.

Drive side

I can position the Treo within the latch to make it tile toward the right side, make it easier to read.

Works really well since there is so much smooth surface in the Mini. I am going to make another one for iPod. I have too many friends who have iPod minis.

IMHO, those are all very distracting choices

try this, standard panavise mount designed for the MINI

I don't like those because I have to take my eyes too far away from the road. Plus its ugly when you are not using the GPS/iPod. Now if the holder is retractable, the it would be a different story.

I was going to put the GPS on the sunvisor, but I will wait abit until I have a bigger one. I am considering the Fujitsu n520 now.

Actually, I rarely if ever look at it because it just tells you when to turn. Just needed a place to stash it without moving around and the dash is so small. Yup, there is a little metal bar when the GPS is not mounted but that is what give you a solid mount.

Just giving you an option

I don't put my mobile on the dash, I just put it in one of the cup holders and works well.

I need to look at it because I also double it as an iPod, hence the picture with the pTunes software running. I also check internet from time to time but let's not go there.

I got a Lowrance iway 500c GPS/NAV and found that it fits nicely in the nook above the cup(less) holders. It makes the holders worthless, but they were pretty much anyway. Power can be had by tapping into the lighter socket. And audio can be easily run to the radio AUX or in my case to a Blitzsafe. I found that suctioning the NAV to the windshield was too distracting. I did have to add a remote antenna but that was a simple cable route up through the right dash panel to the top of the dash by the right 'A' column.

fwiw,

I am planning on getting a Garmn Quest GPS and would like to mount it on the driver's down tube. The ideal mount would allow me to attach the GPS mount to this and would position within easy arms reach, and be positioned just at the dash. It would cover the interior light button. Has anyone a mount like this. I don't want to do away with the cup holder. Certainly if there are mounts for left-hand drive, there should be mounts for right-hand drive MINI's.
