I wasn't paying attention. I gave it some gas and ended up under a SUV ;( I hate SUVS!! If it was a normal car no damage would of occurred.

Busted headlight, dented, scratched, rippled hood.

Anyone have a guestimate of how much it would cost to fix?

If its over 2k i might get insurance involved. (I'm assuming it should be around $1500-2000)

I really hate my life right now. I feel like someone died.

Lemme guess... merging and the guy in front of you decided not to go at the last second?

A xenon headlight assembly is about $800 from Classic. I think about 1/2 that for halogen. One piece - replace the whole thing...

Hood damage would need a pic to more accurately guess... but given what I know from some friends who've had front end damage, I'd say there's a good chance you'll need to call your ins. co.

I agree, I can pretty much guarantee the damage you've described is going to be more than your deductible. A good bit more.

Hey, I'm just glad you're alright!

Exactly that.

I'm estimating $2000 in damages.

Sorry to hear Pat, hope your MINI is fixed soon. I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. Luckily it was a car, and only my license plate got dented.

if the hoods damaged at all, it will need to be replaced, because its double sided. the painting is always expensive, id say about 2500. Good luck!

Pat,

I'm sorry that happened. I nearly did it myself just last week. I only avoided it because my wife saw that the car in front had stopped. Even though nothing happened, I was still embarrassed because I should have been more careful.

But what's done is done. And that's what insurance is for. Just take care of it quickly, learn from the experience and move on. Sorry, dude.

Great timing. It's christmas ;(

So sorry Pat! There are few things (okay maybe more than a few) as gut-wrenching as seeing your beloved MINI all smashed up....and knowing the drama to come when you go to get it fixed. Glad you are okay! My MINI was "violated" last year....in time, once repairs are complete, you forget it ever happened. Til then, be strong....the only way I survived mine was on some banana pudding a friend had made me. Ate the whole container. In one evening. Or so it seems.

My first survival skills rule for NEW motorcyclists is "You only can hit what is in front of you." Worked so far for me in 20 years of 2-wheels, hope the same holds true in the MINI. Sorry about your crash, could probably have been worse but it doesn't SOUND like frame or body damage, so maybe it's just a hood...., excuse me, BONNET, and parts.

sorry about your loss, i can really empathize. i had nearly the exact same collision on Friday in my 2005 MCS. I was stupidly following a fullsize Dodge van too closely. We were both in an exit lane when the van came to a relatively sudden stop due to congestion on the offramp. Since I was both following too closely and unable to see the congestion around the van, I made a nice little impact on the van's bumper.

Damage is same as you--mangled hood and 1 busted xenon light, plus i have some radiator trim bits that need replacing, and possibly a radiator. my insurance estimator is going to the body shop tomorrow (i hope), but the body shop's estimate is $4000-$5000 :(

I suffered similar damage due to collision with a deer. New bonnet, front bumper cover, left xenon, grille, reskinned left door, all of the associated plastic trim plus paint and all of the miscellaneous bits and pieces to put it back together. The estimate so far is $5,200.00.

I hate to say it this way but your lack of control has nothing to do with hitting an SUV. You could have hit a divider. As you said "I wasn't paying attention" Dont be angry at what you hit. I hit a tree once and I don't hate trees. If you were paying attention you wouldnt have hit anything..........dont be an SUV hater. Some SUV owners actually need the space.....I know I own a Tahoe.

Ouchie!! Geez - I feel for you.....glad you weren't hurt though. A good body shop will have your baby fixed in no time....

I know this probably won't make you feel any better, but when we had Scooter, we were rear ended big time on Christmas Eve....... So I know that sick feeling you have about now...sorry........

Insuracen estimater is taking forever. But I spoke to my dealer, they have their own body shop (or so they say??) They have a new HUGE facility. Maybe they do the body work there also....

Anyway, i called the body shop manager and he said "i'm sorry there is nothing I can do about the deductable"...

But, I'm good buddies with my Service Manager. I'm going to give him a call and see if he knows any other shops that can help me.

feel for you

I feel for you. That totally sucks.

The iron garage door just closed across the roof of my brand new mini--I felt crushed too, I know its just car but I can't seem to shake it. My fault totally and yet it doesn't seem fair.....
Folks have told me I'll get over it when its fixed--sure hope so.
