Just had the FRM done yesterday. For those haven't done it, may want to ask your local dealer to provide a loaner car as it took two days for them to do the entire recall,
included checking the sunroof drainage (mine wasn't draining well) and need replacement.
I thought that Mini was supposed to contact owners when the modules were available. Is it up to us to instigate the recall repair?
I received a letter from Mini corporate and also notified via Carfax (I have an account for tracking repair /services). You can also call local dealers, they should be able to set up an appointment once the VIN is shared w them.
I also received a letter from Mini corporate back in August, It said remedy was available. This has not been accurate. It is now November and the remedy is still unavailable. I contacted corporate and they have no answers as to when it will be available. I also contacted NHTSA, with no resolution.
Since you were lucky enough to get this done, can you share any details regarding what they did? Clean the contacts? Replaced the FRM? Did they do any damage to the headliner checking the drains? Did it do any good having it done?
They had the car for 3 days and told me they had to first open take the headliner down check draintube and floor carpet to assess if there's any water accumulation and signs of water entering the module on the left front side
near the hood latch. They said the tube was clogged but no water damage as the car was parked in the garage. As for the module, they simply put a piece of clear semi rigid film to cover a strategic area to allow water to run pass
it, that's the fix. I would assume if they see sign/s of water entry / rust near the module, they would probably replace it. I took a picture of the "fix" haha and will share again.

Thanks for your quick and helpful reply. I am really sad that this is the fix I have been waiting for - for 2 years. Maybe I'll drop off a roll of clear Gorilla tape to the dealer, so he can fix a bunch of them???
I’ve had 2 letters (last summer
and about a year before that)
so far saying the recall was
ready for my MINI only to have
the dealer tell me both times
that no, it’s not available for my
2009 R55.
i also talked to MINI customer
service to get more info on
timeline and they were singularly
unhelpful as well.
Anyone have a quickie guide on accessing the FRM?
Would rather not just dive in to prying on panels & get at it properly.
Mine decided to fault again this week after nearly 2 weeks of trouble free motoring. Been too nervous to use the windows for fear of the FRM faulting & them getting stuck down.
Thanks Gel.
Will try to give that a look this weekend & see if there's anything obvious around the FRM. Wondering if I maybe have a connection issue, as this problem never happened to my dad when he had the car for nearly 2 years. But then it sat for a year before I started driving it.
Thanks for the update. I need to go talk to my dealer...
What a joke... Received another recall notice letter in the mail yesterday. Decided I would finally go down to the local dealer and inquire about having the work scheduled. Was basically told to go pound sand because my car is not having issues. Service Advisor told me that unless the car started having problems, they were told to do nothing and ignore the recall. I'm going to have to call Mini Corporate....
Something else that I saw on the dealer paperwork was that there is a "no sale" flag on my car/VIN, due to the recall not being addressed. So not only it isn't going to get repaired under the recall, i guess that I am not able to trade it either? It would be interesting to know what type of response you get from Corporate???

I had the opposite happen to me years ago, was in the closing steps of buying a CPO 2014 F150 Limited & they pulled the deal because it had a safety recall for brake booster failure & no fix was ready, so they claimed they'd get fined if they sold it with an active/open safety recall.
Ended up in a new 2016 XLT for the same price.
Weird, i thought it was for prevention. Says in the letter they will be inspected?
Yeah, I had the letter in hand as I walked into the service area. He seemed very dismissive, like he didn't want to be bothered with it. Like he viewed it as a "Service Bulletin" and not a recall...

Sort of related...took y 2008 in for an oil change in December. They said they couldn't do the FRM until July, 2025! Top priority, I can tell. LOL. But they say they'll provide a loaner b/c it will take 2-3 days. As I read all the posts in this thread I have to conclude there is something very messed up about this recall.
Brought my R56 in 2 days ago for the recall. I didn't get any letter for it since I just bought the car in Jan this year.
I was having the typical issues for the FCM so I looked up the VIN via Mini and found the open recall, then called the dealer and they told me when to bring it.
They called me yesterday to say they did find water under the carpet and were going to remove it and make sure everything was dry. The didn't say all they were changing and I did let them know I only wanted the recall done.
Dealer: Mini of Burlington VT
If anyone is interested in what they change if water is found let me know. No loaner car mentioned or provided.
Added a type of water diverter/shield over the new FCM
Dried out (didn't replace) carpet. They did remove it completely to dry and inspect.
They had the car for 3 days, I planned on picking up after hours...but they didn't put they key in the lockbox, thankfully I counted on this and brought my spare. They shipped the key a few days later.
Bonus: They also said I need to replace my turbo (quoted at $4.2k, and tires for $700)... I declined naturally.

Sounds exactly like the dealer here in Mpls/StPaul. I left there last year after an oil change, with their recommendation for $7,000 worth of work: a new oil filter housing, and some leaking bearing or whatever.
