I've got a re-built S/C with an Aluminum "cheater" pulley that's been pressed on the shaft. Anyone come up with a way to successfully get one off without having to cut it off? Gear puller? Specific type?

 

alta makes a puller that is a two piece that clamps around the pulley, I believe it can be used with smaller pullies, I used it with a JCW pulley

A pressed on reduction pulley ?
Why the hell would someone bother to go to all that trouble....?

 

This is a much smaller diameter than a JCW. If one were racing in a "spec MINI" class and wanted to go faster, what one one do? The pulley was machined from AL long before the advent of what is available now and was pressed on the shaft in order to look "stock".

 

Heat? Aluminum should expand enough to work it off the shaft

 

Don't know that I'd want to throw a lot of heat at the S/C but it's a thought. Would still need a gear puller with slender fingers to get on the back side. Not much clearance. Have measured and determined that the pulley is 15% reduction. I could just install it as is but, if it ever needed changing, the S/C would have to come out again. Still open to other ideas.
