if that's what your pully looks like... what does your sc shaft look like? Let me guess you used a standard pully puller and not one specifically made for pulling pullies off of an eaton sc.

I used first the puller from mini mania. The puller broke and warped the pulley... then i used a three prong puller which stripped out... then i called Ed at mini mania and he said this is a problem in about 1 of 30 mini's... he suggested we use a drill to remove the pulley, this is the result...

As far as the shaft goes: it had a few dings in it but was otherwise fine. The shaft is much harder than the pulley...

I have driven the car about 200 miles and i have no squeeks or strange noises... The pulley lined up perfecly...

Yeah, i had problems getting my pulley off also. I used the one from mini mania as well and i managed to get the pulley off but the puller is now out of order, the threads are all locked up and its absolutely useless

That's alot of carnage for only using a drill...

When I did my pulley, it was 'stuck' too. Turns out the puller alta supplied wasn't mounted on the pulley right, this was from my own inexperience with gear/pulley removers. After I corrected it, the pulley was removed easily.

I had a similar experience when I upgraded about a month ago. The stock pulley wouldn't budge, the threads of the pulley removal tool were ripped right out after only warping the pulley. We then tried a 3 arm pulley removal tool and snapped one of the arms. We ended up using an air powered angle grinder with a small cutting wheel to cut it off, it looked very similar to the pictures above. Accidentally cut a small groove on the end of the supercharger shaft, but haven't had any problems after 1000 miles. In the end, it took us about 8 hours from start to finish!

I even had a propane torch, and the SC was off.

but it was a little hobbiest torch and didn't have what it took to expand the pully. Glad to hear that your eye got fixed, that was a close one! Too close for sure..... A ricochet make it around the lens?

I guess I was fortunate. My pulley came off with only a few hundred cuss words.

As far as heating things up goes. I've found that it really helps to heat & let cool a number of times. I believe it's the heating & cooling action that breaks the bond. Especially a rusty one. I know, no rust holding the pulley on.

Heating worked for the crank pulley...

the s/c pulley just wouldn't budge for anything

torch, 4 different pullers, dremel, whiz wheel, and it finally came off

I personally don't like the MM puller tool. It's 1/2 grip action lends itself to bent pulleys & then they're more of a b**ch to get off.

Me as well as a friend of mine had the same exact problems as all of you did, when we did our pullies. Both required cutting with an air tool. In the end tho, it was worth it.

haha yeah mine broke when doing it too.. the pulley puller that is... there was no way to get my pulley off so I had to cut it off the SC shaft... there was only a hairline like on teh shaft... nothing to worry about and it has been working so far so no problems.

So glad to find this thread...but I still have problems with my pulley. One of the pulley pullers main guide bolts broke off in the shaft of the pulley/sc. We have tried everything!!! welding nuts on for leverage, vice grips, 2 nut trick, etc. Any ideas? That bolt is stuck!

I have a MM puller and have used it on about 20 pullies to date with no problems. I have only had one pulley that was hard to get off, but that puller did it without any problems.

no luck on the search...nothing useful. does anyone know of the harm of leaving the bolt in the shaft of the sc? i don't like the idea, but it seems to be the only option left?!?

Before you leave the bolt in Stella can I get some info to try and help?

Do you have the bolt material from the puller in the end of the shaft?

If so and you can't get it out, it MAY be ok, but what brand of pulley are you putting ON the shaft?

Let me know either here, or even better in a PM or taft.adam@gmail.com

I am more than happy to help get you back down the road!
