What they said. Plus, its a rubber gasket, so not much torques are needed. Just enough to get a good seal.

Valve cover tightening sequence

I realize that this is a 4 year old post but I’ve looked everywhere and cannot locate the tightening sequence for the N18 engine
I have the Bentley manual but it does not indicate sequence for N18
i also acknowledge that it’s only 10nm (87 in-lbs)
pretty hard to mess it up but if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing it right.

the only image I’ve been able to locate is the one shown here and earlier in this thread.

can anyone confirm if this is correct?
Everything I’ve located for earlier engines state that you should start with the 2 bolts in the middle but this one states 1&2 are the centre front and rear perimeter bolts.
A confirmation would be greatly appreciated
10nm

thank you

Yeah, thats it.
I will caution you on one point, it’s actually quite easy to screw up because the torque is so
low. I had one stripped on mine, though it didn’t leak.

Really, just torque the bolts down enough to add compression to the gasket for a seal.

Thank you
your suggestions, input and confirmation is appreciated
I will take caution in applying pressure 84-88 in -lbs or 10nm is not a lot

It worked out great. Thank you for the suggestions
All appeared to be in tip top shape under the cover.

Thank you
Perhaps the 45,000 KM (28,000 Miles) has something to do with the condition of the engine. It was running rough but that was 100% due to neglect.

When I got it in Jan (of this year) it was an extremely neglected car (My wife thought it was a turd. She has a 2018 F56, Electric Blue garage Queen with only 40,000KM so it's easy to say that when she compared them to one another). She's now changed her view and was crazy surprised by the outcome.
My other car is a Crossfire SRT-6 but this car is way more fun to drive

The paint work had a lot of really deep scratches, the bumpers were a mess and the stripes were peeling. Inside, when I peeled back the carpet install sound insulation, I discovered Interior floor was soaked in water

With the exception of oil changes, zero Maintenace/service work was done in 13 years.

The previous owner had a battery 2 sizes too small and couldn't work out why it was a poor starter. This was the last week/(end) for service and appearance. The clean-up and service took me 6 months, it's now in 100% condition for a Road trip to the west coast

Before and after
