Dunlop Direzza?

Alex? Anyone?

Any reviews on these? Dunlop calls them a "tuner" tire which scares me a bit. Decent pricing though, so I'm wondering how they compare to say...Yoko es100?

TIA

minniedryver,
These tires are new and not listed yet at tirerack. Give alex a call if you want to know more and when they might carry it.

For a review-
http://www.dunloptire.com/about/news...4_direzza.html
"The Direzza complements Dunlop’s other “tuner” tire – the SP Sport FM901 – and provides excellent dry and wet handling, quiet ride and even treadwear, according to Ben Hyder, Dunlop account engineer. "

In a tirerack.com review test of the FM901 with the Yokohama Parada Spec 2, the Spec 2 came out ahead as an ultra high performance summer tire-

Perhaps rather than comparing the Direzza with the ES100 you could be looking at the Parada Spec 2.

Actually, The Direzza is being shown on the tire rack site. I saw it yesterday, and wasn't sure how long it had been out.

My reason for this particular comparison is due to the es100 being well regarded here, and the fact that both the es100 and the Direzza are available in sizes that will work with my 16" wheels.

I plan to buy tires in February or March and since the Azenis st215 is being replaced with a tire that doesn't come in the 215/45/16 size that I'd like to buy (or a 205/50 that may be in my future), I am exploring reasonably priced (@ $100 per tire) tires in 215/45. I'm sure a 205/50 is what I'll end up buying, but for now I'm exploring all of the possibilities.

So Alex...have you folks done any testing with the Direzza yet?

minniedryver,
I missed the Direzza listing when I did the search for Dunlop tires. Had to go the the complete listing. There was no write up for it on tirerack and no test results yet- Alex will know when they will perform that.

The Direzza DZ101 is in the Ultra High performance summer tires and is available in 215/50-16 size for $87 each V speed rated 90 load rated 300 tread wear A A. 215/45-16 requires at least a 7" wide rim while the stock rim is 16x6.5".

Also in the same class are:
Avon Tech M500 205/50-16 $87 87W 280 AA A (good wet traction)
Fuzion ZRi 205/50-16 $73 87W 320 A A (good overall less expensive)
Yokohama AVS ES100 205/50-16 $81 87W 280 AA A
Yokohama Parada Spec 2 205/45-16 Only fits 7" or wider rim(good wet traction)
Bridgestone Potenza RE-750 205/50-16 $108 87W 340 AA A

then
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3/Bridgestone Potenza S-03 (more expensive Max Perf summer tires)

In a recent tirerack test the Yokohama ES100 were trailing-

I went to my local tire store asking about Yokahama AVS ES100's They're recommending the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 over the Yokahama AVS ES100. They also charge about $7 more per tire for the Dunlops.

Any comments on the Dunlop vs. Yokahama?

Another tire that has me curious is the Fuzion ZRi, but I don't like the apperance as much. Looks like it belongs on a Trans-Am. I could put up with that if it's a really an excellent performer.

I do some spirited driving and go to the Dragon at least once a year. I'm currently running worn out 16" Dunlop all-season runflats.

i heard the tire walls on the dunlops are soft, some people like it and some people don't... so thats up to you to decide. also, i do hear from some people it has good grip but i have no idea how well they compete with the yokos (the avs es100's are said to be the best bang-for-the-buck tires)

Dunlop classifies the Direzzi as a High Performance Tire, and the SP Sport 9000 as a Maximum Performance Sport tire. The Direzzi is not Dunlop's highest performance tire. Dunlop rates it a 8-8 in dry-wet traction, compared to the SP Sport 9000 (and SP Sport Maxx) which they rate as 10-10. The Direzzi also has lower ratings in both ride and comfort. You get what you pay for. The Direzzi isn't a hidden "ultra high performance" bargain secret. It's just a good (not great) tire.

true, its market position is the same as Fuzion's ZRI, IMO. Tuned but not toned.
