Locking storage for gun/valuables?

I’m not sure how to approach this one, since the topic of guns can be a touchy subject, but I’m giving it a shot (no pun intended). I have a concealed carry permit, and frequently carry. That being said, when I’m going into a location where I can’t carry, I don’t have any secure storage options in the Mini. Since I got the Mini, I have often left my pistol at home, because I’m not willing to leave it in the car without at least being in a locked compartment. I have a console vault in my Silverado for this exact purpose, but haven’t found a good solution for the Justa. To be clear, I’m not looking for a holster mounted to the bottom of the dash, or any other vehicle carry solutions. When I’m carrying, it’s either on my person, or in a backpack/briefcase if I’m carrying off body (usually on my person). I’m solely looking for a storage solution to secure my weapon when heading into a location where carrying is prohibited. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Following, looking for the same thing. Also a permit holder, wanting to stay within the law, the P.O. and schools are no go zones in PA.

I would suggest buying a glove compartment or the push mechanism of a R57 (mini convertible) and have a locksmith match the lock to your key

here you go

That is cool. I would go with that. Price is good, but isn't for a Countryman, or did I miss something?

Yep I seen people do the R57 or R59 glove box lock. Its coded lock but i believe MINI will get you the key and it will be a separate little key and then it has the button separate. I would check with them they might be able to code it to your key. We dont carry them as its a theft part and MINI has to issue it at a dealer new.

Looking at the realoem diagram, there Doesn't seem to be a lock for my car's glovebox.

Sorry missed you had a Countryman, thought you were talking about the R56 since that the thread, my bad. No lock for the countryman/ Paceman.

All I can think of is one of those little gun vaults like you linked.

My bad for being in the wrong place, but maybe the OP will find the links useful for his car.

Buddy or mine has a jeep with cloth top. He bought a small gun safe made to put in a car. He bolted it to the floor.

It's not lockable but I use the secret dash storage compartment. Kimber Micro 9 fits well.

I don't know if its all years (it prolly is) but there is that storage cut out where the spare would be. It would take some drilling and making sure you seal/dont hit anything important but you could prolly make a really cool one that can bolt in there.

Bolt something like
THIS THIS
in there?

We've installed Gun Safes in the cargo area of a few Range Rovers for customers. and as a purely fun fact sidenote.... The Holland and Holland Shotgun case that comes with the Range Rover Holland and Holland special model is $40,000 appox. I'm guessing you're looking for something a 'bit' cheaper.....

And if you're wondering how we came to find out the replacement cost of that shotgun case..... wait for it, wait for it... The vehicle owner put a handgun inside the case, the magazine popped out of the gun and jammed the case, making it unable to be opened. We had to destroy the case,[ Aluminum and Leather] to get inside the case so he could retrieve his handgun. Land Rover warrantied the case for him.....

Thanks all for the great replies. I may look at picking up one of the glovebox locks. Separate question for an Admin... Why was the thread moved to Countryman talk? My original question was about my R56 hardtop. I'm still new around here, but always try to post in the appropriate forum. Thanks again all!

That's a pretty big whoops! I don't know that even my 18" Mossberg would fit in the Mini width-wise, even with the stock collapsed! I had to figure out how to fit a pizza box last week, with my son and the dog in the car!
