I've had an inexpensive one (from Newegg.com $35) and now have an expensive one. They both work really well. With the more expensive one (OBDLink WIFI $120) I get slightly higher sampling rates but not really worth the money unless you're really trying to do "hardcore" data logging.

There are a few options. You can use a Wi-Fi adapter (cheap, effective). You can buy an expensive "made for iPhone" certified Bluetooth adapter. Or you can jailbrake your iPhone, buy a $5 Bluetooth app that bridge to apps such as DashCommand, and a cheap bluetooth. I did the latter.

Note that if your iPhone isn't already jailbroken, you may have to wait. There is a new jailbreak for iOS 8.0/8.1, but it's in Chinese (makes troubleshooting difficult), many jailbreak apps aren't year iOS 8 ready yet, and the jailbreak appears to break sending pictures in the built in Messages app. Not ready for primetime.

Great info. Do you have a link for the "made for iPhone" Bluetooth adapter?

Ok well I just went ahead and purchased the dash command app, and uh, I'm a little confused. All this info in advanced settings for the car to calibrate everything, I have no idea!

For most things you don't need to change/enter/calibrate anything but check out this thread, it has a lot of info in it for Dashcommand.

There is always the OBDLink MX Wi-Fi, that should work with iPhones.

I use the GoPoint bluetooth and DC on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2.

Not Jailbroken or anything. Plug and play works every time.
