Rivet Removal

I need to remove this wheel trim and wanted to see if anyone had any experience removing the small rivets?

Thanks

Yep. They usually break. Make sure you have a few spares on-hand when you remove that trim piece.

Not specific info to those, but they sell various tools to remove rivets. If you have some play in them you can often pry them out or you can drill from the top with a bit just large enough over the shaft size.

I did not realize that you just need to push them all the way thru the rivet and they come right out.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, you can punch in the center plastic pin of the expanding rivet and pull them out. If you can find the plastic pin you can reuse the fastener by pushing in the pin to expand the fastener (see 13 below). I like to have a couple spares incase I cannot find the pin, of decide to drill them
out.

Here is the #11 left hand side ( driver )

Those expanding rivets sometimes break, you have to use a very small flat head or driver to push the pin through , then pop off. they can use 2 different types a 11mm or 16mm , measure the old one and then match up .

11mm

16mm

Thanks

Ecs did you mean 11 and 16 on the rivet sizes? That first link takes you to an 11mm rivet. Wasn’t there a kit available with an assortment of these?

Updated and fixed, link to realoem updated also. Was an old thread so the diagram has been updated. No kit, just add to cart the totals.

IIRC the dealer told me most of the bodywork on the R60 takes 13mm rivets, don't waste your time trying to preserve them, they're extremely cheap and are meant to be one time use deals.
