I figure it's time to get this started as people are taking deliveries and some will be shopping for wheels.

OEM the car has a 5x112 bolt patter with 66.5 center bore in the following sizes:

16x6.5 ET: 54
17x7 ET: 54
18x7 ET: 54

Tirerack recommends anything from ET40 to ET50 in a 7"-7.5"width

I want to know if anyone has tried a 17x8 +35 offset?

I want them to have an aggressive fitment but not like hellacool hellaflush kids.

 

The set I'm looking at is 18x8 et 35 front and 18x9 et 35 rear. No idea if it will fit yet though. I need to sort out the suspension first.

I really wish they would have gone with 5x120 even though I know we have way more options in 5x112. It just would've been nice to be able to bolt up an 18x8 et44 BMW wheel to see how it fit real quick.

They will poke 21.7mm more than stock and sit 3.7mm closer to the strut.



What rims are others considering?

 

I am looking at these.
Size: 17x7.5
Offset: 48mm
Bolt Pattern: 5-112
Rec. Tire Size: 205/45-17
Cost: $148 Each

I am hesitant though, as I would really rather have 18s :(

I'm really open to anything that is strong and light. I'd love to find a used set of Advans or Volks that will work without hub rings or spacers. The NM Engineering wheels are nice too but nothing on their site in the new fitments yet...

 

Damn I really wish we had some options for coilovers right now.

 

What is the advantage/disadvantage of coil overs in relation to current suspension?

 

8-10 weeks for coils from KW - I am in contact with them at present to try and secure one of the 1st sets!

 

Advantages:
- Adjustable ride height
- Better handling

Disadvantages:
- Stiffer suspension

stiffer is in the wrong section

and some are really not very stiff...a friend running H&R street comfort had a softer ride than my kw v1 at the time (on the same model car)

 

I will be going for V1 most probably!

 

It's a matter of opinion :P

If your goal is handling at the cost of everything else, then stiffness is an advantage. If you're just looking to lower the car and handling be damned it's a pretty big disadvantage.

Pretty much, yes. Unless it's a track beast, it's essentially a gain in aesthetics at the expense of comfort. The lower you go, the worse it gets.

 

So I have a set of nice locking wheel bolts I'd like to use on the mini. Can anyone confirm if the thread pitch is the same as recent bmw/minis? (12x1.5mm)

 

I decided to try one of the wheels against the car to get a rough idea of how they would look - this was the result:



It just wasn't doing it for me, as I just couldn't visualise them properly - so out came the jack and I got one bolted up to the hub - here are the results of the test fitment:





















There doesn't seem to be much clearance on the F56 compared to the R56 - both on the outside and inside of the arch my wheels are 18x8 ET45 as this is VERY close to the strut tower! I would imagine that with coils, I will need a spacer to stop the wheels / tyres fouling the strut.

I am also surprised at how close these seem to sit to the outside of the wheel arch. I think the F56 owners are going to have less clearance for rims that R56 owners currently have!

I will no doubt be running some 205/40 18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on these rims, which will give some stretch (although will be within Michelins recommended rim range - so I'm hoping it won't be too much!?)

 

So pardon my ignorance, but I'm running Conti 225/40 ZR 18 92Y's on my Audi A3, and was hoping to move these rims and tires to my inbound F56. Is this a no-go?

P.S. Anyone want to buy an A3? (kidding)

Pennengr, those tires are probably going to be too big. Tirerack recommends 205/40/18
