Carbon buildup codes of death? HPFP?

CEL came on and I have these codes.

P2096
P2783
P277b
P277f
P2773
P2ac2
P2a75

1st is too lean code.
2nd is all cylinders misfire. (I may be confused with another but one of them is certainly this)

2009 Cooper S. K&N Intake and AP Stage 1 tune for a little while before.
BUT I had just added a Riss Racing catless downpipe and O2 extender. CEL came on within 20 miles.

Rest of exhaust is stock; didn't change the tune.

NAM, what do?

Hopefully this will be of help to someone down the road. Mini will charge $500 to do the carbon clean up. It has under 39K miles and still has CPO warranty. If it's the High pressure fuel pump, it's covered.

My logical theory is that all but the first code were there before and the too lean one made the CEL pop up. I don't see how a downpipe would cause the others but it does seem like way too much of a coincidence.

Spark plugs? Maybe?!

I was experiencing misfire and my scanguage was showing negative ignition value from time to time. I change my spark plugs and everything is back to normal.

So the only thing I changed was the O2 extension/defouler. Removed it.

Things didn't change at all at first. AP still won't clear the codes or they just come back instantly. Took it for a short drive; seems to run fine at low load/speed.

But new codes came up.

P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0302 - Cyl 2 "
P0301 - Cyl 1 "

When was your timing chain replaced. When mine started going it threw random misfires 1-4 and fuel adaption errors. Just a thought

We have these codes as well, primarily cylinder 3, and the dealers first answer is carbon buildup. We're going to replace the plugs and coils first though and see what that does.

In last 3000 miles tensioner was replaced. I assumed they did the chain too, as part of that service bulletin

Guessing that's what they want it to be.

For plugs I know I'll have to wait for shipping. None locally

Yea I'm ordering the tune up kit from ECS that has all new OEM coils and NGK plugs.

It's kind of annoying having to daily drive a 99 Miata with a 6-puck clutch, leaking roof and highway shaking but I'll do what I have to...

If just the tensioner was replaced, the chain probably wasn't replaced here's my diagnosis

Thanks for telling me that.

Seems like these misfire codes come up for almost anything wrong with the car.

Wait they replaced your sprocket? They didn't do that for me...?

Misfire P Codes for High Pressure Fuel Pump

I had sudden stalling and misfire codes (read with AccessPort) on my 2009 Clubman S around 55,000 miles. Initially it was cylinder 3, then 1, then all cylinders. Stalling/stumbling/misfires occured only on cold starts or after sitting for 30 minutes or more, slowly getting worse over a couple months. CEL would come on when engine stalled/stumbled. After about 30 seconds or so the engine would start working properly and I was able to drive the car like normal. A few months later the engine stumbled for the first time while driving and accelerating hard.

Had my local Mini shop do the intake valve walnut shell blasting for $440. Did not help, but did improve power and throttle response a lot (recommend). Dealership wanted to charge me around $700 to redo the intake valve cleaning as part of their diagnosis steps, but didn't (they took pity on me and bypassed this step since it was already done). Dealer's diagnosis showed that the HPFP was not the issue (no fuel pressure-specific codes, and good pressure I suppose) but they replaced it anyway. This completely fixed the problem! The HPFP warranty is 10 years or 120,000 miles, unlike the rest of the car which was 4 years 50,000 miles.

These were my codes:
P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P2781 Misfire Mult Cyl Max
P2779 Misfire Cyl 4 Max
P277D Misfire Cyl 2 Max
P2783 Misfire Mult Cyl Error
P277B Misfire Cyl 4 Error
P277F Misfire Cyl 2 Error
P2773 Misfire Cyl 1 Error

Hope this helps. I've posted this information a couple times already.

All they need to do is monitor fuel pressure on both gas pumps to determine which pump is operating below specs.

Thanks, I will ask specifically that they do it. My service adviser seems willing to help me out, especially since Mini themselves should reimburse them for the HPFP.

Tried something else; run stage 2 map instead.

So far it drives fine but I hear a slight clanking noise at idle with hood open. No CEL, no codes at first but after an easy drive the P2a75 code is up. Still no CEL.

No cel, it must be mechanical. Could be one of your cam sprockets to where the chain jumped teeth on one sprocket causing misfiring. The overlapping could be the chain making that clanking noise at idle.
