diverter valve spacer

so thee previous owner installed a spacer at the diverter valve so it makes that cool swoosh noise as it sends excess pressure into the air...it was cool for a few days but now i feel like it may be affecting the car negatively not to mention it seems these cars were built with putting that sir back into the system (no other mods ) ..

so my question is am i assuming right with this ? (first boosted car) and is there a gasket that i would need to replace if i removed the spacer...i do see ecs shows a yellow o ring but not sure if thats replaceable itself

Think you are talking about the Blow off adapter: Here is the Forge one for example.

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/FMDVMCS/

It just sets between the Electric Valve Part # 11657593273 and Turbo itself.
If you choose to remove it you just put back electric valve and the yellow gasket up to the turbo. Just like in the pics.

Here is the forge PDF for install, just do it in reverse.

Thanks

I highly doubt you are getting adverse effects because of it. If the noise bothers you, definitely change it out. No hate for that. BUT I will say I have had one installed for over 6 months and it did not affect the cars performance in any way. To me, it was a great idea to not blow a burst of hot air back into the intake. This is not a car that meters the blow off air and compensates for it in the way say a turbo MR2 does where the engine will get a blast of unmetered air and run like crap.

So from a noise standpoint, sure, toss it. From a performance standpoint, I wouldn't be blaming the spacer on any adverse effects.

that makes sense..

question then...if my diverter vale was sticking..would that cause a more constant blow of air ?

by that i mean if i give it the beans then let off and cruise with out too much throttle occasionally itll continue bleeding off air .. again new to boost so its all new to me lol

The diverter on these cars is computer controlled and somewhat slow to reset. It will sound like a burst of air then slowly get less as it closes. If you want, there are upgraded versions available. There's one I believe WMW or ECS(can't remember which, or both??) sells that is a direct replacement with a stronger diaphragm(the common failure point that causes boost leaks or poor response), and then Alta sells a mechanically controlled one that most likely will be more rapid in response, but will only go off at a certain boost level.

thats exactly what is happening but getting worse over time...almost 50k on this car and no records of it being replaced and it seems like they wear out fairly quick (especially in the high heat like here in florida ...maybe since they are cheap ill look into picking up one of the oe replacements from ecs...

i honestly have alot of reservations with keeping this car..i love it and am not a stranger to wrenching but ..still owing on it and a potential move to an area where the dealer is a hike to get to makes it concerning

I also started to think if it's the car I'll keep when I move somewhere more rural. Right now my MINI dealer is about a 2-3 minute drive from my front door lol.

The fun factor keeps me coming back. Yes they have a few common issues that might be a bit more expensive than some other cars' common issues. BUT they are not hard cars to work on thus far in my experience, and I find myself willing to put the little extra cash into it to have a fun daily driver. I've yet to find the right balance of practicality and driving experience that can get me to trade her in.

As for the concern at hand: I've heard that the upgraded version(I believe it's a VW version, but I don't remember who sells it) is a major upgrade that should last longer than the stock one. And as you mentioned them, I'll input that I'm a huge advocate of ECS's customer service and prices. I wouldn't hesitate to get my replacement from them if I needed it.

ill do some research on it for sure..

as for the car itself i love it it puts a smile on my face everytime .. i just get paranoid everytime i hear something slightly funny lol..i am used to semi expensive to maintain cars (last few were all bmws and being older they loved to be worked on) but this property we are getting is gonna take most of my time and doesnt quite have a place to work on the car....its staying for now tho

For what it's worth, others HAVE reported problems with vent to air valves. Glad to hear the Injected has it working, but if you have concerns, you might check some other threads here.

Believe it or not, N18's seem to have no issues running them.

I know it's hit and miss with N14 cars.

As for the WMW valve, it's the same part as the one that comes with all N18's. It was redesigned/ upgraded when the N18's came out due to the failures on N14's if my memory serves me right.

But if you have the stock DV on a N14, then it's certainly worthy upgrade.

It's not an aftermarket VALVE on a charge pipe. All it is, is a spacer that reroutes the air from the diverter. The engine does not meter the diverted air and compensate for it like some systems, I don't see how this causes any issues.

I'd never seen that one. I was actually referring to this one:
http://waymotorworks.com/wmw-perform...off-valve.html

I had thought someone mentioned it was a VW part on the cars with the same K03 turbo.

I have this DV installed on my 09 MCS for over a year. No problems at all. I'm now considering a DV spacer.
