Who has pulled fenders?

So i know it's damn near impossible but i was wondering if anyone has tried to pull their fenders? I could really use about 1/4 inch more clearance up front and i know it's really hard to do as you have to keep the fenders aligned. Has anyone tried and has some words of wisdom? the front is what i really want pulled but the rear would be nice as well. Thanks for the info.

Well, if you insist on having your car appear and drive like you have broken suspension... You could just get drunk, heat up those fenders, and roll a baseball bat on it.

It's what all the MK4 tards do. You can do it too!

Dude, why are you trying to roll your fenders. Just curious. I mean I know why you want to, but you drive a 2011 MCS. It holds one of the best residual values of any care on the market. All the bolt on modifications you've tossed on thus far can easily be removed and returned back to stock in a weekend, but you pulling you fenders can't really be undone.

Just food for thought.

I'd be concerned about not being able to do quality work. It might look like crap. Then you're screwed.

Maybe he likes the way HIS car looks and just wants to roll the fenders to make sure any possible rubbing is eliminated. He doesn't care what YOU think about HIS car, just cares about advice to make his car work better for him.

And to your other points, there are more advantages to rolling fender lips and fenders than simply slamming it to the ground like some ghetto lowrider. Race cars have rolled and stretched fenders in order to have wider wheels and meatier rubber on the wheels without having fenders get torn up from rubbing.

So how about you only provide some helpful advice to make sure HE can enjoy HIS car better versus YOU trying to tell HIM how to drive and build HIS car. Let's try that for a change.

Back on topic for the OP, I'm not quite sure how to go about doing it since the fender edges are plastic and would have to be removed to get to the actual metal fender. And I wouldn't guarantee that if the metal fender is rolled/stretched, the plastic trim will be able to snap back into place.

These are my main concerns which is why i was looking for advice. I don't really want to do it if noone has any pointers on it not looking like crap.

There are things you can trim back, and get some more clearance, but as far as stretching the sheet metal back to fit really wide wheels, and have your car slammed... Pretty much impossible without heavy modification in a body shop and a full respray, then you would need to have different arches made because the stock ones wont fit.

yea, i'm thinking i'm just s.o.l. as you can see in the pick. due to the offset of the wheel i just really need 1/4 inch more but i do agree. if i try to roll the metal and change the way the fender flows there is a good chance it won't look good. sigh... and i love my wheels and don't want to get another setup anytime soon. gotta brainstorm some more. I know it's petty and people thinking that it would be a lot of work to lower the car anouther 1/4 inch or so but it's my style and it's what i like.

Is it possible to attack it from a camber perspective with some camber plates instead of a bodywork angle? I'm not an expert on extremely lowered cars, but just throwing out an idea.

I thought about that as an option but I got unlucky and have one of the minis that has axle bind when you lower the car to a certain point. I actually had to lower my car beyond this threshold. And as I'm unsure on how the geometry of what causes the axle bind besides the passenger axle being too long, I didn't know if adding camber would put the axle at a angle where it would bind again. But it is true. Even a small amount of camber would give me the clearance I need.

My fenders are sorta rolled. We didn't have enough clearance in the rears and they were rubbing on metal. We took the plastic covers off and took a rubber mallet and bangs them up a bit. It worked! The plastic fender covers popped right back on and no one can tell the difference. The only downside is the my tires have rubbed away a good portion of my plastic fenders. I have very slight negative camber...just enough to fit my tires.

I'm not a big "stance" person, but I had to do a little tire stretching and cambering to fit my sexy wheels.

I'm not sure if that helps or not...I didn't read through this whole thread when I saw the bashing. I support anyone's style, even if I don't argee with it.

while it may not be the easiest (or cheapest) solution for most people.....i know if i wanted larger fenders, i would most likely try to make them myself.

i think i would first go out and buy a completely seperate set of fender trim( that way if i screw up, i still have the stock trim to put back on), and i would use that as a 'base'.....i would then build it up with foam, cutting and shaping it until i got the look i wanted, then i would seal the foam and use it as a mold and make the fenders out of fiberglass.

once the glassed pieces are set up, youd have to trim them to size, prep them with bondo, primer, ect. then figure out a way to attach them (ide most likely rivet them on), then you paint to match your car.

a lot of work, but i think that would be the least invasive and 'safest' option.

i think if you do it right, you can get away with doing only the wheel arches, and leaving the side skirts alone.

You really gotta get some front camber in there. You should be able to dial in a little and just work your way up till you get axle bind then back off a little. Then take it to an alignment shop to get your toe fixed. Have you PMd Rally? He's awfully low in his clubbie. Have you tried swapping axles to see if that fixes the binding problem? Have you trimmed the front plastic flares yet? They have a small lip on them that could be ground off to give you some more clearance. What's the full specs on the wheel/tire setup? Offset? I'm surprised you're not hitting anything inside like the top of the wheel well. Are you only rubbing on the fender?

Really? Our totalled cars up north just get auctioned, then rebuilt and sold with salvage title...We're Canadians, we're too apologetic to crush cars. We'd be saying sorry to every car we crush.
