R60 Question About Dashboard
Question About Dashboard
Hello Everyone,
I just ordered a 2014 MINI Countryman and have a question about the color of the "trim" (can't think of a better word for this) around the speedometer and the vents. I've seen pictures where these are brushed silver looking and others where they are black matte. How do you differentiate between these when ordering?
I want the brushed silver but am worried I'll end up with black matte since I didn't spec this out when making making my order. The sales guy didn't ask about this either as he was putting together my order.
Thanks much for any info!!!!

Yea all the new ones are black, so you can't get the silver ones any more. You could probably mod it afterwards. There is a whole thread on how to change the old silver ones to black, maybe you could make a deal with one of those people, hehe.

The 2011-2012 Countryman S had silver trim around the "Mickey" (speedo and center vents) and the outboard dash vents. On the 2011-2012 non-S Countryman, this trim was a darker "anthracite" color. For 2013, both models received new black trim around these areas, with a texture that matches the rest of the dash (the earlier silver or anthracite trim is smoother than the rest of the dash). Many people with the S models do not like the silver and have swapped for the newer pieces, so it is possible to go the other way.
I swapped out the older original Mickey Speedo & dash vents...in the ugly grey. Also have the older trim ring in grey but am using that until the correct cup holder console comes in, as the new black trim does not fit well on the older style cup holder....All is available if interested..PM me! But make sure thats what you want as everyone is going in the opposite direction you are..... lol The dash really flows a lot better in black...but to each his own
Thanks everyone for your replies!
I didn't even notice the dashboard color when test driving the Countryman. LOL. It must not have been offensive if it didn't stick out to me. I didn't even notice the headliner color (I am, though, happy about it being polar beige).

I have ordered and received the new 2013 right and left side air vent covers to match the new center speedo. Does any one know which dash trim parts have to be removed to access all of the screws to remove and install the covers? Thanks
From what I understand, you will need to remove the A pillar trim. There is a screw at the top of each one (behind the circular "airbag" plug). I think it uses a T20 Torx screw. Once the A pillar trim is off, you will see the screws for the vents at the top of each section.
The Silver Speedo Trim from the 2011/12 models isn't quite the same piece. I tried replacing with the new Black 2013 part and it didn't quite seat all the way so be careful what you wish for. Ended up just painting my silver one Black.
Well at least on my 2011 it does. Better than the old crappy grey trim rings, looks wise as well as the fit. I believe the clips are of a different style and needed to be used.....I can only speak of the look, not of the install as it was done at and by the dealership while in for regular check-up
Search for it. I would help but on the phone. You have to remove a pillars, lower trim and glove box.

Plus on the passenger side you need to remove the glove compartment to access one screw behind it. On the drivers side you can just unclip the panel with the ingnition slot.
For this and the glove box you start with the bottom panel just above where your fit go.
I thought at the time I should have taken photos.
It's pretty easy: you need a torx 25 and I think it was either a 10 or 15.

Here is the thread that explains how to remove the side vents:
