Fuel Injection

I have the 2009MCS with about 28,000 miles. The dealer recommended a fuel injection service when it nears 30,000 miles for approximately $590-$600. This sounds overpriced. Is this necessary to get done through the dealer? Can I add Techron? I consistently pump Chevron with Techron's 91.

Thanks in advance!

sounds like a ripoff. You can buy a bottle of Techron at Walmart for about $6. I put a bottle through my '09 R57 about every third fillup.
Just to be curious I would ask him whats involved in the service they are recommending, and ask for a written estimate listing any parts and materials. Bet he won't give you one as about $595 of it will be labor and rip-off charge.

If you haven't noticed a drop in performance don't do it. You can always run an additive to clean the injectors yourself.

Walnut blasting isn't going to help the fuel injectors. Walnut blasting is for removing carbon build up in the valves, etc.

I was saying maybe the OP misunderstood the MA. 30k sounds right about the time one would want to do that.

That was the first thing I thought too. Of course we live and learn. I took mine in with what turned out to be the HPFP but before they got to that, they did the walnut blast, replaced the fuel injectors and spark plugs. I think they knew what it was all along but sense the HPFP was a recall, they needed to make some money to cover the warranty work!

Thanks for the responses. I'll try the Techron bit. The guy who deals with reviewing the key from the car with the computer specifically stated fuel injection service at 30k. I'll check again to see if he meant otherwise. Anything else I should expect in the next few thousand miles?

Tell them to do it IF they would have done it under the free, aka, complementary mx plan....bet they tell you it is an "EXTRA SERVICE"....THEN SAY...why are you trying to sell me something bmw/mini does not reccomend on a new car under warrenty, when they pay for it.....

Ha I'd love to say that. Unfortunately, my warranty was up in February and I was told this sometime in mid-March. Missed it by two weeks or so. Didn't purchase the extended or any third party warranty either. :(

If you fill up with only Chevron, you are already getting enough Techron to keep things clean.
