Pilot Super Sports Installed

I had a few folks here ask me what the upsized Pilot Super Sports look like on my '11 MCS. I had the second set of 225/45/R17 SS's installed today after logging almost 20k miles on the original runflats and then almost 30k miles on the first set of Pilot SS's. The Pilots wear quite well - very even wear pattern on all four (I do rotate front to back every 5k miles or so) with excellent grip and performance throughout their entire life. I was still driving in the rain with the almost spent set recently with no problem.

The new set feels great with the ride smoothing and softening out with a full tread underneath the car again. I have never been disappointed with a set of Michelins in the 30+ years I've been buying tires which is why I usually buy them when I'm replacing tires. I drive ~100 miles a day through mostly challenging canyon roads in my commute so good brakes and tires are a must IMO. I swapped in a set of slotted StopTech rotors and Hawk HPS pads last week so I'm good for another 18 months at least. The Pilot SS is definitely one of the best ultra performance tires you can buy - they handle great in dry and wet conditions.

Here are a few shots of what the Pilots look like. As I mentioned before, there are no rubbing issues whatsoever at full lock with the 20 mm increase in tire width.

Agreed.

Just put a set on my GP and they are hands down one of the best tires I've ever driven on. Pricey, but worth every penny.

Nice! Think I'll replace my worn Dunlop Direzzas with a set of these.
Been hearing nothing but great things about these tires.

Do the Pilots in this size have a specific country of manufacturer?

Thanks, Don

I just recently purchased a set of these in the same size and can't wait to get them installed. Scored a great deal from the recent Discount Tire Direct sale for $565 shipped!

Wonder if I could also use the oversize on my 18" rims. My current tires are Pirelli P Zero 205/40 R18.

Just recently replaced my runflats with PSS in 215-17-45 and the difference is staggering! Loving it!

Got my PSS 215-17-45s in my storage room waiting to mount on my summer wheels (r112s). Got them a couple of weeks ago from Tirerack when they were running a Michelin sale. Waiting for the temp to stay in the 50+ range before taking off the winter tires/wheels.

Already have the larger RSB and FMIC with the NM discharge pipe installed and can't wait to get the summers on to test out the 12 mile twisties to and from work every day.

Been off the run flats for a while and what a difference! A must upgrade for any MINI.

I assume that the 225/45/17 did a good job of eliminating the speedo error as well, or are you now running faster than the speedo readout? I'm about 4% under speed (gps reads 61 when the speedo says 65) with my stock sized 205/45/17.

Anybody running these sized tires on a lowered MINI?

Good to hear consistent, positive feedback on these tires. I just can't wait until my all season bridgestones are done this summer, its hard for me to justify throwing out tires with 1/2 tread on them....

Mike

I just swapped my winter Hakkas for summer PSS yesterday. So far I'm more than impressed but no track time thus far. I do have rubbing issues however but I believe it's a combination of the new offset(48 OEM wheels to 37 OZ Ultraleggera). No rubbing while sitting but rubs when spring compresses(bumps). Stance is perfect though :P
