Need to replace these on my daughters '03 R50. Can I get some recommends on what brands to use and where to get them? Looking to go as close to OEM as possible, as she doesnt want to spend a ton of $$ on high perf this and that for a normal street driver.

Centric premium for rotors....many folks have good luck...
The calipers must be twisted AND compressed at the same time...some kits do not have s small enough part to do it...
Harbour freights kit is cheap, and DOES have the part yo do the mini.

 

+1 for the Centric parts. Even the Centric standard rotor is fine. The only difference is painted "hats". They're both manufactured to ISO spec. I use 'em for track duty. Clarification: The caliper PISTON must be rotated and compressed back into the caliper. While doing that, it's a good idea to watch the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Pads for a non-competitive, street driven car, I'd just go to my local auto parts store....or the same supplier you use for the rotors. Hint: That local parts store may loan out the required caliper tool.

 

Thanks for the quicky replies. Will go with the High Carbon Plain 125 Series Rotor - black. I see them for 31 bux / each at Tirerack. Yes I have used the free tools from the auto places, great service they provide.

 

Do I need to change the brake pad sensor? Got the Akebono Euro Ceramic Pads and thought i read the pads will not accept the sensor.

 

If the sensor has worn to an open circuit and the brake light is on, you need to replace
the sensor. If not, the old one can stay on. In either case, if the pads you have don't have
the slot for the sensor, you'll need to tie the sensor out of the way.
I used some wire to tie mine (I'm using Hawk HPS - also no rear sensor slot) to the rear caliper
making sure it didn't bind or interfere with anything.

 

I believe the MINI "kit" for rear brakes on your R50 would consisting of rotors, pads and sensor are actually very affordable.

I got Zimmerman rotors to replace my fronts and so far so good. I buy a lot of parts from Pelican because they always treat me well. I ordered parts on Friday and had them at my house on Tuesday with free shipping. They also have almost anything you will need for your Mini.

WMW also has a rear brake kit. I've never bought anything from WMW (15% pulley kit as soon as i change the supercharger oil) but hear they are awesome.

Thanks all. Finally got to order some parts, and do the work. Very easy job. Went with the Centric rotors and Akebono pads, 125 bux for all delivered. Didnt see any attached sensor, maybe tied back by the previous owner?

Anyway, brakes are excellent now.

 

I believe sensors were added during the run of the '03 year. I don't believe my wife's car has them, and I know my '02 does not either.
