Brake pads & rotors - should I change now??

Hello all, I wanted to ask your opinion on the following.
Our car says we should change the brakes within the next 1k miles, but after further inspection it seems that we still have some life left in them:

Size: 141.9 KB

These are the rear brakes:

Size: 87.7 KB

Dealer replaced all brake pads 24,400 miles ago, how many more miles do you think we can still go with these?

Here is the rotor for the front brakes:

Size: 303.0 KB

Should I change them for new ones?
Thank you everyone!!

Damn you just got them changed 24k miles ago? What the hell are you doing, romping on the brakes every turn? You should be getting 3x the amount of miles on these brakes. Sure change if you want or save up for something better and change the when there is nothing left. Also disconnect the sensors now so that you won't have to replace them when you finally wear them out.

jmo, fronts need to be replaced. Rears can probably go a little longer.

Ok, didn't think they were that bad... I didn't find the sensor on the front one, unless it's on the driver side.

The rears look like they can go another 15-20k and the front another 5k also removing the pad sensors now before the ridge in the rotor cuts the wire will save time and money at the next pad change.

When you see some new pads you will realize your fronts are done.

rule of thumb for any disk brakes

when the pad material is less thick than the backing plate it is time to change 'em

here's a nearly new 07 front, with some white added to highlight the backing plate

and here's a very worn 02 front

another seat of the pants check for MINI OEM pads anyway, you'll note the new pad has very visible bevel on the edges. Note that when you can't see any bevel anymore you'd be about to the thickness of the backing plate

I'd be replacing the front rotors. I usually go 2 sets of pads to a set of front rotors on the MINI. To get technical the minimum thickness for the rotor is stamped or cast into the metal around the hub opening. But that's a pretty good lip .. time to go IMO.

Good chance you already tripped the front sensor if down to 1000 miles. Here you can see the two 'nubs' left after the rotor broke the wire in the sensor

last: only 1 wear sensor per axle, left front and right rear.

ever wonder what's inside the sensor?

the bottom is the part that is against the rotor. this one has had the wire worn off - broken - creating the open circuit.

+1...either a crack or accumulated brake dust.

Thanks for the info and pics, I looked into rotors, will most likely get the centrics. No wonder I didn't see the sensor... I don't think it tripped though cuz the warning light hasn't come on yet.

I have one quick question, if anyone can advise. My 2010 justa just went over 50k miles and the service info says I have 700 miles left on rear brake and 10000 miles left on front brake. Is this right?

Thanks.

That's weird, if you are still under warranty just take it in to service so they can check it out. Or check them yourself and if they are good then don't mind the service info.
